USB 2.0 port on front of Pav. a1010 does not work, how do I turn it on

My son was on computer with his ipod hooked to the 2.0 usb port, it just went out. a note came up saying that it had a overload and it told how to reset it but my son clicked on it so not sure how to reset. Thanks for the info everyone.

Maybe its broken.

Look into your ports, check for any bent pieces, if you ever bent them, or shorted them then you cooked the USB headers on the mainboard.

Maybe its turned off?
Right Click My Computer
Click Hardware
Click Device Manager
Do you have any yellow or red marks next to anything? (this could be where it is disabled)

Still not working?
Reboot the pc, go into the bios, and search for the front usb ports. Thats the only other place they can be disabled.


Have they worked in the past, did anything change since they worked last?

Where can I get a replacement for my 2 front usb ports on my optiplex 760..they are not working??
I've never seen 2 front USB ports that were bad. I've seen 1 that was defective because the USB device that was plugged into it was broken off. However in that case it caused the power supply to short out and prevent the computer from powering on. Here is a link to your model:

If the USB ports on the back of your computer work then the front ones should too unless there is a connector dislodged to motherboard. All USB ports use the same circuit.

I cannot get a SanDisk flashdrive to go into either of the USB ports on my new desktop computer. I am using the USB ports located on top of the computer
To test the functionality of the usb ports in front of the computer
1. Insert another flash drive or another usb device like a usb mouse on front the computer 2. If it detect the usb device that means 2 things flash drive might be bad and the front usb port is working 3. If it does not, It means that the flash drive might be bad or the usb port is not connected to the front panel of the computer 4. Try also inserting the flash drive at the back of the computer see if the usb drive is detected in all ports 5. Check the BIOS for any usb port associativity

USB port problems
You need the motherboard specs, which you can look up on the internet, based on the maker.
With the USB ports, the front ones often don't include power.
So plug a powered 4 port hub into the front port, and then the hub will supply the power after that.

USB 2 PORTS NOT ALL WORKING properly on ASUS p5gdc-v deluxe
I thnik the Front USB ports are only Ver. 1.1. as to the ports at the back are ver. 2.O. so it does not read the external drive. this is hardware config. you might not be able to fix this.

Flash drive ports on teh fron wont work on pc
If your system is USB 1 rather than USB 2 then some flash drives will not work. Not all usb 2 flashdrives are backwards compatible. My kids flasdrives will only work on my usb2 ports & will not work at all on my wife's computer which has the older usb 1 ports.
