Router not recognizing internet connection from cable modem.

I am using local company cable for my internet. My Motorola modem Intellinet wireless router model #524445. I hook everything up and all the right lights are on saying everything is a go. However even though the 'PC link' light is on my router will not recognize the ethernet link up. If I plug the ethernet right into my PC it works just fine. So my problem is I can't get the modem and router to work together. The modem does see the PC and wireless through the router but not the internet connection. This is what I have done so far:

Set taken to resolve problem, but nothings works:
- unplugged modem, router and shut down pc. Then booted everthing back in that order.
- Uninstalled all adapters then rebooted to resintall.
- Went into router config and manually typed in MAC address of modem.

Do I need a “HUB” between the Modem and Router?

No, you do not need a Hub. You also should not need to add the mac address. On the router, you need to enable DHCP so that your PC can get its IP address from your router. Then try your reboot again. Modem------------->Router----------------->PC. Wait about 1 minute between each device for them to sync up. Make sure that your PC IP settings are set on obtain IP address automatically under Control Panel----->Network Settings

How to set up the wireless internet connect on my laptop to this new SBG901 modem?

Short answer: YOU DO NOT.

The cable-modem just converts from the cable-company's signals to/from Ethernet signals.

You use an Ethernet cable to connect the output from the cable-modem to the 'WAN' (or 'Internet') port on a router with wireless capabilities. Then, you configure the router to create your own wireless network, with:
* an SSID ("network name")
* encryption level (use: WPA)
* a password for your network

Then, your wireless device can cite the SSID/password to authenticate to the router.

I cannot find the security key on the bottom of my motorola surfboard modem

Contact your local Internet Service Provider for assistance with your cable-modem.

Or, if you have connected a wireless-router to the cable-modem, and now you are trying to connect a wireless-device to the wireless-router, that's where a "security-key" is needed.

1. If you have a modem, connect the modem to the router(make sure modem should be connected to the port on which LAN, Internet, WAN is mentioned. It would be a separate one port on the router) and router to the computer.
2. Insert the disk that came with the router, inside the computer.
3. Follow the on screen instructions.
4.No, connect to the wireless. OR

Bought a wireless router-intellinet 150n4-port router. i had cable internet hooked by modem to my desk top. i dont have a clue how to set this up. wanted the wireless for the wii game up stairs. hooking it...

http://www.intellinet-network.com/en-US
link above for manual find exact model 7 number & download, read up.
You hook up with an Ethernet cable, you type in the "Address" of the router, in manual, login, using default name and password, in manual, once logged in toy can then run the "Wizard" this will help you connect. You need to know your Internet Account login and password. Once all setup you save and now you can use it. it is all explained in the manual. It is a few pages so it was not possible to post here.

I need to reconfigure the Netgear router

There isn't really much to configure on a cable modem. If the modem is fully recognized by the cable provider (all lights are lit on the modem once connected to the cable (coax) side), then just plugging in the Netgear router's INTERNET connection directly into the cable modem will work fine. If the modem isn't properly recognized, you'll have to call your cable company and provide them the MAC address of the cable modem. The MAC is a 12 digit hexadecimal (0-9,A-F) number that should be on a sticker on the modem itself - it will be listed as six pairs of hex digits. If the cable company doesn't have that particular MAC address attached to your cable account, then it won't work.

Motorola SB5100 and linksys router connection

The only thing that you need to setup on your Linksys for it to work with cable is to make sure that DHCP is enabled on the router.  You will need to plug your router into the modem via the ethernet cable and then plug your neighbors pc into a link port on the router (the cable modem plugs into the internet port)  You will also need to follow the reboot procedure.  Power everything off.
1: Turn on the surfboard and wait about 1 minute for the surfboard to make a connection with your ISP (the link light should come on).
2:Turn on your router and wait for your router to sync up with the surfboard . 3: Turn on your computer. Whenever you plug anything into a cable modem, you must recycle power to the modem.  It "remembers" the last device that was plugged into it, so it's memory needs to be cleared.

Can I use my router just as a Wireless router with a DSL .

i doubt it will work. most times the cable companies give you a modem/router all in one box. the problem is there in no inbound connection to recieve an internet signal other than the cable cord connection. with the dsl modem you will need a seperate router. they cost around $40-50 on avg
