We have 2 laptops going through this router and

First you need to verify that what kind of Internet connection you have from the satellite and what you need to do on the router so that it can communicate with the modem like MAC address cloning or changing the LAN IP Address. On the basis of that we will need to reconfigure the router back as it might happen due to a power outage or small network glitch the router might have lost the settings stored on it.

I have a Linksys WRT54G router. The power went out the other day and I haven't been able to establish a connection since. I can connect when I run cable from the modem to the cpu, but not if I try using...

what is the model of your modem? if you said that you are able to get online when your computer is hooked up to the modem only, then it indicatest that your modem is not yet in bridge mode. Putting it in bridge mode will make your modem a "pass through" device thereby causing no conflicts in asking for ip add/connecting to your ISP. when your modem is in bridge mode, you should not be able to get online.
after setting your modem to bridge mode, connect your linksys router. if you have a pppoe connection, or one that uses username and password, have that set up in your linksys router. at this point, your router will be the one to ask ip adds from your ISP.
you could also visit this site, http://www-ph.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C1&childpagename=PH/Layout&cid=1166859677881&pagename=Linksys/Common/VisitorWrapper&lid=7788193882H13, for further configuration of your router. as for your modem, try to call your ISP on how to set your modem to bridge.

WE have sattelite internet How do I connect a router using this?

hi gusbarb, thank you for using fixya. In using your linksys router on a satellite network, it is much like using it on a non-pppoe dsl connection.

the router uses 192.168.1.1 IP address and it may have the same range as that of the satellite connection. TO have the conflict resolved please log-in to the router's GUI then on the first page of the settings, change the local IP address to 10.10.10.1.

once this is done, you may also enable the router's MAC cloning. this feature is used by the router to fake a modem (satellite) to think that it is a computer connecting to it and not a router.

you may refer to this link to change the IP address as well as the MAC Cloning.

hope this helps

Cannot connect to internet Model WRT54GS

Hi

I would like to know who is your internet service provider and would like to check if the router is configured with your ISP modem.
To configure for different ISPs here is the link
http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C2&childpagename=US/Layout&cid=1166859761879&pagename=Linksys/Common/VisitorWrapper&lid=6187977881B11
The links are there for setting up with DSL as well as cable modem. Do let me know if its working or not.
Thank you

Does a satellite internet network require a special wireless router or will a DSL wireless router work? (Huges satellite)

They will provide you connection on their satallite modem. You can use any wireless router of your choice with the same.

I have a computer hooked up to bell sympatico. How do I connect my new compaq to it? Thanks

If you have only a DSL or Cable modem, that doesn't have an integrated Router, then you'll need to get a router to use more than one computer. The broadband modem, will connect to the uplink port of the router, and give you usually 4 wired ports and up to 50 wireless connections.

Here is an example from linksys

No Connection...

Have you tried doing the resetting in the following strict order?

1. Turn Everything off.
2. Turn on all satellite related components, wait a little then also turn on modem. wait 60 seconds until machine is up and IP is ready.
3. Turn on router, wait 60 seconds, allow IT to get its IP and setup itself.
4. Turn on computer.

Sometimes doing it in order is all it takes to make the machines act correctly.

Satellite broadband dropping out - Ipstar Satellite modem - Netgear WGR614v7 Wireless Router

Without knowing more about the network, I would suggest replacing the router and see if the problem goes away. Can you see other computers on the network when this problem is occurring? In other words, is the issue with the internet connection only? Or does all network communications cease to function?

How to set up network on belkin G+ wireless usb adapter

do you have a Wireless Router + Broadband modem?

This is like a base station to which your remote wireless node communicates (to get connected to your home network and internet.

something like this http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=187337 for an ADSL connection.

If you are on cable, you can either get a Router similar to the one above (but for cable) http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1138056788757&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=8875739789B01

or if your Cable modem has LAN ports you may just be able to use an "Access Point" to add Wireless capabilities. http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1126536803676&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=0367639789B22
