Sounds like you have a duff PSU, it will need replacing or it will cause the system + PSU to overheat

You would need to look at the BIOS manufacturers site for the beep code and it's meaning. You can also pull all the hardware out, memory HDD, CD/DVD and boot if you no longer get the error, power down and add one component back and boot. Repeat until you get the beep code again and you will know what the problem part is.

Solid Red light on hp compaq 6000, instead of green light. Does any one know why?

Yes, it means a bad Power Supply.

Try cleaning out the inside of the computer first. Use a can or two of compressed air for computers.
{Computer unplugged from power, Anti-Static Precautions observed}

How to open the computer case:

1) Work on a table
2) Computer unplugged from power
3) All cables removed from desktop unit
4) Observe Anti-Static Precautions

HP Support > HP Compaq Pro 6000 SFF > Manuals,

Under the Service and information heading, left-click on the second file listed -

Maintenance and Service Guide: HP Compaq 6000 Pro Microtower Business PC

(11Sep2009 / PDF / 11.15MB )

This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
After you click on the above file name it may take up to 30 seconds before the first page comes up.
It may also take additional time for the file to fully download.

{Took 22 seconds for the first page to come up, and no additional download time. Using medium speed DSL connection }

In the Bookmarks menu to the left, click on the + sign to the left of - Removal and Replacement Procedures Small Form Factor (SFF) Chassis, then on Access Panel

Or go to Page 123 using the page number box at the top, and the Down Arrow.

Clean the inside of the computer out. pay special attention to the Processor Fan, and the finned Heatsink under it.
Also use the plastic straw in the Power Supply's ventilation holes. Try to clean out the inside of the Power Supply the best you can.

(Hold onto the plastic straw with one hand, and the can of air with the other hand. If you do not, the plastic straw may come loose, and shoot inside the case of the Power Supply)

After cleaning close the computer case, reattach all cables, plug the computer back into power.
WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on.

Still no?
Then it's time to replace the Power Supply.

The exact Product Number (P/N) is on a white Service Tag. On the back of the computer, or on the side. Usually next to the Windows product key.

Everything has been working okay on this compaq until this morning. Upon powering up a Red and White HP screen pops up that turns into a black screen which reads quite simply: "Disk Boot...

The computer could not read your copy of Windows from your disk-drive.

Either:
* there is no electrical power getting to the disk-drive (check the power cable)
* the "data" cable between the motherboard and the disk-drive is faulty or not-connected (check it)
* the power-supply in your computer is not supplying power to the disk-drive (try different power-supply)
* the disk-drive itself has "failed" (maybe, the motor that spins the disk-drive has failed)

Take your computer to a professional technician for trouble-shooting.

Green light in rear flashing won't part up

The green light flashing is a diagnostic LED light, telling you there is a power failure.
More specifically a bad Power Supply.
Weak voltage power rail.

The Power Supply used in a Compaq Presario SR1010Z desktop computer, is a 300 Watt unit, and is an ATX form factor.

[ATX form factor for a Power Supply, denotes the size of the Power Supply case, and the shape.
It is approximately 6 inches Long, 6 inches Wide, and 3-1/2 inches Tall.
The ATX form factor for a Power Supply is used in over 90 percent of the personal computers out there, and is as readily available as the air we breathe]

Usually, HP uses one of three generic Power Supply manufacturers.
1) Bestec
2) Delta
3) HiPro

All are low quality Power Supply manufacturers.

This is HP Support, and the main menu page for the Compaq Presario SR1010Z desktop computer,

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=1146324&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&submit.y=7&submit.x=6&lang=en&cc=us

If you click on Manuals, then on Upgrading and Servicing Guide on the following page, there are instructions on how to open your computer case.

This is instructions on how to replace a Power Supply, from HP Support,

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01356113&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3548196

(It's for a Pavilion a6230n desktop computer, but after you open the computer case of your Compaq Presario SR1010Z, the instructions are the same)

What Power Supply would I recommend?
There are 100's to chose from.
This is but one example,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3276575&CatId=1078

Chosen because;

1) Maximum wattage is rated at 450 Watts.

A computer ONLY uses the power it needs, and NO more.
Wouldn't matter if you had a 10,000 Watt power supply, (No such thing. An exaggeration), if your computer only needs 100 Watts, it would only use 100 Watts.
(Surfing the internet typically uses 100 watts)

2) Has all the power cables you'll need, and more. Tie up the power cables you do not need. (Use plastic ties, Not wire, or bread wrapper ties)

3) 24 Amperes (24A) on the 12 volt power rail.

4) 135mm cooling fan.
The cooling fan on the Power Supply you have now is 80mm.

A larger fan turns slower. Produces as much air as a smaller fan, (Or more), but makes less noise.
Less wear on the fan's bearings also.

5) Is an ATX form factor Power Supply.

6) It's 80 percent efficient, compared to the 60 percent efficient Power Supply you have now.
(That is, if it was working)

Computer will not start

It all depends how many beeps there were.
From http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12253_div/12253_div.HTML
Diagnostic LED Explanation Table Number of 1-second red LED blinks followed by 2-second pause, then repeats:
2-processor thermal protection activated
3-processor not installed
4-power supply failure
5-memory error
6-video error
7-PCA failure (ROM detected failure prior to video)
8-invalid ROM, bootblock recover mode

I have only really come across 4 beeps = order new Power Supply or 5 Beeps = reseat the memory and hope it works

Compaq Presario Wont Boot

Hi, my name is ArmyMason, hate to tell you this, but it sounds as if you have a bad Processor. Did you recently experience a bad storm with lightning? Was their a lot of dust on the fan? Lightning could have struck the computer and killed the processor or excessive overheating of the processor could have also been the case. If it was a lightning strike I would contact the insurance agency and have them replace your computer. Reason I think its the processor is because you don't recieve any post and the fan spins for a second and then shuts off.

My Compaq died....

One other thing you can try, open the case and disconnect the power supply from the motherboard. Let it sit for 10 minutes, hook it back up and plug in and turn it on.

Let me know how it works out.
