If you are talking about the latch for the top screen flexible cable, here I put some examples about these type of connectors:

little black latch on ds lite - d791245.jpg
3ef4bdd.jpg

As you can see the black or brown latches are there to press the flexible cable contacts down to the connector contacts and avoid the flexible cable to unplug accidentally.  All you need to do is lift the latch and then the flexible will be free to take it out.

In the case of the other black wires, you just need to lift the plated connectors.

I recommend you to roll up the flexible cable and use tape to avoid damage to it when taking it throught the hinge. Thats because if you damage the cable then you must but a complette new top screen because the flexible is soldered directly to the LCD screen.

Good luck...

My ds lite will play gameboy games but not ds games

Your DS cartridge reader is faulty. Unless you know how to take the DS apart and replace the reader by soldering, you should just buy a new one.

Baby oil in nintendo ds touch screen

Hi, you will most probably need to replace touch screen. Buy new 1 from ebay about 2 quid and a tri-wing screwdriver to take apart console. Youtube videos how to replace touch screen and follow video step by step. Not at all hard to do just make sure you don't break the black clip off the board that holds the ribbon cable for the touch screen, can be write fiddly. Magnifying glass will help and small tweezers.

When you turn on the ds lite the screen just flashes and then turns off

Hi,

The screen that doesn't flash is faulty and will need replacing, i would suggest you do 1 of 3 things:

1) send it in to nintendo if undr warranty.
2) Take it to a local repair place.
3) Replace the screen yourself.

To replace the screen yourself you will need take the console apart. The screens can be brought from vrious sites such as ebay for a reasonable cost.

If you need help to repace the screen click on my name and look at the repair guides i have written.

My daughter's ds keeps displaying the message, there is no ds card inserted. we've tried every game she has, turning it off and on, blowing in it...help

Hi,

Chances are the pins in the slot are bent or broken...To check shine a torch/ flashlight down the slot and see if anything looks out of place.

My best suggestions for resolving this are:
1) If under warranty then send it off to them for repair.
2) Find a local repair place and give it to them to repair it.
3) If you have good soldering skills and fancy a bit of DIY repair you can have a go at sorting it yourself.

To be honest its far easier to just replace the entire slot-1 part than it is to take the part apart and repair it, the cost of the slot- 1 is very reasonable from ebay.

I have a few guides written up to help you if you do decide to take the DIY option, they are as follows:

DS lite slot- 1 replacement
DS lite dismantle guide

Hope this helps, any further help or advice you may need then feel free to contact me.

Bottom screen on nintendo ds not working

Could be an LCD failure or a loose ribbon connection. You will need to take the DS apart to check either.

DS lite plays some games but not others.

Hi,

Chances are its the slot- 1... Have a look at my guide i've written to see if any of the tips I suggest help, if not there is a bit on replacing the slot- 1 part. I also have a guide on taking apart the DS lite if you need it. The replacement part is readily avaliable on ebay for very little money and so long as you have soldering equipment and a steady hand you should be fine.

My DS wont turn on so I try to charge it the orange light comes on but eventually it turns off an suggestions?

Hi,

When you say it doesn't turn on does the green light come on at all?

If the green light stays on for 1-2secs then you should see one of the screens flash, if that happens then you will need to replace the screen that doesn't flash. If you need to replace the top screen follow this guide, or if you need to replace the bottom screen follow this guide.

If there is no green light at all then the chances are the "F2" fuse has blown. To replace the fuse follow this guide.

If you need help taking the DS lite apart follow this guide.

The guides are written by me so if you need any extra help or if you have any more questions don't hesitate to contact me.

Hope tis helps.

My ds lite touch screen works in some areas but not in the middle do i need it replacing

Hi,

Try to calibrate the screen again and if that doesn't work then chances are you will need to replace it.

If its under warranty then send it off, if not you can either take it to a repair shop or do it yourself.

If you do want to do it yourself I would suggest trying disconnecting the touchscreen and then reconnecting it before you go ahead a buy a new one just incase its the connection thats wormed its way loose.

If you need a guide for how to take the DS lite apart including what tools you will need I have one written up on here.

Nintendo ds lite that shuts off unexpectedly

Hi again,

Ive been doing a bit of research and it seems that if the DS lite has had a knock the black coil near the power switch could have been knocked loose which would make the DS lite switch off randomly. If you want to see if thats the problem take the DS lite apart (for a dismantle guide click here) and check to see if its loose... its the black round thing with 100 written on it near the power switch. If its loose then heat up the solder round it and that should reset it.

If thats not it check the L2 transistor is firmly in place, again if its loose heat the solder and reset it.

Another thing you can check is the power switch make sure its solid and doesnt wobble internally i.e. the black moveable part only moves the way its supposed to, as well as checking the solder is solid.
