Re:
Hi! The problem usually happens because dirt or sand get into the lens mechanism. But it seems that more and more people are showing, who took great care of their camera, and still started posing this problem. First of all please try turning on/off the camera, so that the objective could fully open, then un-screw the add-on lens. See if it isn't too tight.
Try to zoom the built-in lens. If you can, try removing the accesory while at different focal lengths.
Now tenderly stuck a blade (swiss-knife) between the metal-ring of the shutter and the plastic and took the metal ring out to gain access to the shutter-cap. Please don't try to force it, you might severely damage the camera. And, if you would post some photos with the jammed lens, maybe it would help a bit. There are 2 safety clenches u must gently push-inwards, one situated at 2 o'clock, the other at 8 o'clock (on the shutter-cap). Manage to gently take out the shutter-cap as to gain access to the shutter mechanism. Don't worry if the 4 parts (shutter) get loose Please note that instead of pulling the 2 shutters apart, in order to have a clear view, you could only push on the edges of the shutter system and the 2 shutters retract. Please do rate this solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance. Thanks Rylee

Here are troubleshooting steps for a lens error. Since the camera was dropped, and the lens is canted, suggest proceeding directly to Fix 7. And here's a video summary of the steps.
Lens errors (E18 errors on Canons) are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...
Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

1>>u may have dropped the camera in some place. 2>>the camera POWER ON switch must have got pressed while the camera was inside pouch. if this has happened, the lens system gets jammed and so lens wont retract. for this problem it costs nearly 1800rupees in indian service center.
I followed the directions contained in http://www.avh.dds.nl/Fix-Canon-SD600-Lens-Error/ and by disassembling the camera and turning the rotor just a little bit (page 4 of the instructions), it freed up the lens and it is now working perfectly! The camera had been put down on the lens as the lens was retracting and I assume that jammed the retract mechanism. While the camera was open, I blew out whatever dust/dirt was there (didn't see much). The fix took me probably 20-30 minutes, and I am very pleased with myself!
