Question about Philips 55PP9352 55" Projection Television

Blue out of whack around sides

I have a Philips 55PP935217 that just recently had the blue convergence go totally askew.  The center area of the picture is fine, but around the sides and somewhat on the top and bottom, I cannot converge the blue.  Around the bottom, parts of the blue look crooked, like they're leaning towards a common point, but I'm not sure what that point is.  Is there any way to manually move the blue lens without messing anything up?  It seems if I were able to move the lens to the left about an inch (if looking at the front of the screen) then everything would be fine.  Am I just dreaming here, or is that possible?

I have the convergence problem with the red. After reading your site I replaced the 2 ICs and the problem is worse. Before the only problem was I could not adjust the red horizontal. Now I have no control over the vertical or horizontal and the overall picture is very red and it bows at the top and bottom very bad. A friend said I might have the ribbon connector in wrong or the convergence (silver box?) box maybe bad. Any ideas? Thanks,Dave.

Found the problem to be convergence chips and resistors. i dont remember the numbers off the top of my head but they can be replace (soldering required) and new heat transferance paste. fixed my problem.

You have a bad convergence IC. I would recommend replacing both. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4220499-change_projection_tv_convergence_ics which explains the problem, how to correct it and where to get the parts. Let me know if you need more help. These procedures are from the owners manual, go into menu and then picture quality and then: Convergence The Convergence feature lets you adjust the TV’s three tubes. When the TV tubes’ images are precisely aligned, they create the color images you see on the screen. Over time, the picture can drift out of alignment (this is normal). If your picture seems fuzzy or has a yellow tint, using Convergence could correct this misalignment. Only one convergence is needed for all inputs, regardless of the signal format. Note: Make sure the TV has been on for at least 30 minutes (TV needs to warm up for best results) before starting Auto Converge or Red/Blue Centering. When you select the Convergence feature, a submenu appears with three options: Auto Converge Automatically aligns the projection lenses to self-correct color images. You’ll see flashing squares of color dance across the screen (this is normal). Note: After performing auto convergence, use the Blue Centering and Red Centering menus to fine tune convergence in the center of the screen, if necessary. Blue Centering Aligns the blue and green images to fine-tune the picture. Red Centering Aligns the red and green images to fine-tune the picture. Note: The ability to change channels is disabled when adjusting the convergence options. The TV must be tuned to a usable signal to converge the picture.

The colors are kind of 3d and not focused there is a wave of blue green and red that dips down in the center of the screen. is there some way to focAS THE LAMPS OR SOMTHING TO MAKE THE PICTURE MORE CLEER?
u have 2 problems one is the convergence ic and also u need a oil chage on picture tube blue a green , maybe total repair $400 , u need to contac a tv shop for thie job

Picture fuzzy and brighter in center. convergence good on red but blue and green only show in center crosses. green and blue glow around figures.

convergence i.c.s change both of them even if only one color is out. if one is bad the other is usually going to give out soon. the part # should be. stk 392-120. also check resistors around i.c.s if the open you wont be able to adjust convergence.

No sounds like the blue CRTs coolant has congealed and thats whats giving you the trouble. the blue tube get congealed and will cause the blue to not even show up properly in the convergence menu

55 hdtv philips having issues with blue and red lines around everything ......
change the convergence ICs also check the resistors right next to the ICs as 1 or 2 of them may be open as well.

Picture is suddenly "bowed" and the convergence is askewed at everypoint but center.
the problem is the EW cicuit of the deflection cicuit. this is a component level repair call a tech. the EW or East West correction is apart of the horizontal deflection. IC431 is the pin amp.

Green dot in middile of my screen
The green dot in the center sounds like a burn mark on one or more of the picture tubes inside the set, and the curved lines are telling me that you have a problem in the convergence circuits. The blue haze around everything white tells me you either have a lot of dust build up on the lens over the CRTs, or your picture tube(s) are very weak. If this set is over about 12 years old, I would replace it. I doubt if you will be able to get the green dot out of the picture without changing the tubes which would be VERY expensive.
