They are easy to change, they just have a couple of pull off spade connectors. The reason for the battery is so that cutting the power to the house doesn't kill the alarm.
Resetting Your Installer Code 1. The installer code (IC) is the code that allows you to access the system programming. If you forget your IC, your alarm company probably won't give it to you. This is because they use the same IC for many installed units and keep it a heavy guarded secret. If your forget your IC code, you're going to have to reset it.
First locate and disconnect the transformer. This is a cube-shaped wall outlet, usually placed around the alarm control panel. Next, shut down the alarm system's power supply. You may have to unplug a battery if you have a secondary power source connected to the alarm system. Once the alarm is powered down, you will reconnect the transformer and the battery in that order.
The rest of resetting comes on the keypad. Within 30 seconds of powering up the alarm, go to your alarm key pad press down the * and # keys simultaneously until you see "20" displayed. At the same time, you should see "Installer Code." Enter your new installer code while the "20" is still on the screen. Your installer code will be four digits. The keypad will beep to acknowledge the new installer code. After the keypad beeps, press *99 to exit the program. To check if you have reset the code successfully, enter your new installer code and press 1 (off). The keypad will beep once if you have successfully changed your installer code. If it doesn't beep, repeat the process. Resetting Your Master Code 2. The master code is usually only used by the home owner. Other users codes can also be set up, including manager, babysitter, gardener and housekeeper codes. The home owner will use the master code to set up these other codes. The master code is also the code you will use when you come home and need to deactivate the alarm before it goes off.
To reset your master code, type in your installer code, press 8, press 02 and then punch in your new master code. Press 1 to turn off the programming. Your keypad will beep when you successfully reset your master code. You can now activate and deactivate your alarm system as you please.
