This type of fault occurs to LCD TVs are aminly due to its LCD backlight failure. Check the CCFL tubes for damage. Check the backlight inverter board too. You have to open the tV to do any repair to this fault. You must have sound knoledge in electronics to do this work.OK.

I would try the company for the replacements and would obviously suggest calling the company (8:30am-5:30pm Pacific Standard) Monday-Friday.

Changing the inverter board shouldn't be hard. It's just the matter of taking things apart and unplugging some wires to it.
There shouldn't be anything you would have to solder in.
I'm sure he gave you the price of the whole inverter board itself. Not the small transformer inverter on the board.
