Yes AVG 7.5 is good.  So's Panda Titantium Antivirus.  You should have spybot search and destroy which is free by the way.  Stay away from Mcafee and Norton, I don't care for them @ all!  Here are a few links and they are all free.

Lenovo 3000 J 115 desktop running 32bit, XP, SP3. Is infected with phony "MS Remove Tool" spy/malware, which has taken over most operations. Can't back up any files to CD--computer tells me...

Hi!
I suggest we scan your computer in Safe Mode with Networking. Please tap F8 button as soon as you turn the computer ON( I mean when you press the power button), then a list of available options will show up, please use the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight Safe Mode with Networking. Then push Enter. Once you access Safe Mode with Networking. Please go to this link: http://www.softpedia.com/dyn-postdownload.php?p=42782&t=4&i=1
Download and install that software then scan the computer. After running a full scan, it will ask you to reboot the computer. Just let it boot up, no need to tap f8 this time, you will be booted to your normal windows. That should fix it
Hope this helps.

I help how to remove trojan/other virus from my window 7 laptop.please help me.

Here's a fee-based service to do it for you:

http://us.norton.com/nortonlive/

To detect the threat level, you may want to try the free (& advertised on TV) web site
www.MySafePC.com, but virus removal will cost $$ - they're happy to tell you you're infected for
free, though.

Here's Symantec's list of things to do:

If you suspect that your computer is infected with a threat or you receive a threat alert, and you want to make sure that your computer is secure.

You can perform a virus scan to eliminate any known threat from your computer. Scanning your computer for threats is easy if you follow the step-by-step instructions provided in this article. The scanning process may take an hour or more, depending on the number of files you have on your computer.

To detect and remove all the threats from your computer, follow these five steps:

• Install the latest virus definitions.

• Stop all running programs and temporarily disconnect the computer from any network.

• Run the virus scan.

• Install the latest Windows updates.

• Run a full system scan once again to ensure that there are no threats.

The first step is to check whether you can install the latest virus definitions, as some threats may block your access to all the security products' Web sites including Symantec's Web site. The subsequent steps vary depending on whether you can download the latest definitions from the Symantec Web site or not.

Someone in my house goes to my log in page and goes to my computer then toolbar.htm. what are they doing?

The toolbars are normally getting information of your surf on the internet. Many toolbars for your browser are already infected with a virus (I did get a virus throu a toolbar) when you install them, this can leave your computer open for hackers. If you use a safe toolbar like google and Live toolbar then it is safe, but other toolbars like them you install when you install a screensaver are many times infected with a virus :O/

IF it is your own internet site you have made, I suggest you chance your password and see if it still happend. IF it do that please contact your site provider and tell them about the problem, it can bee dangerous let other in on your internet site, they can leave virus codes on your toolbar and other places. :O/

Hope that helps
IF not then return here

I uninstalled Spy Sweeper because I can't afford a new yearly program. I now have the problem that pops up and says i need to go to a programs page to fix. I don't know what it is talking about and very...

first get rid of spy sweeper. Go to

http://dw.com.com/redir?edId=3&siteId=4&oId=3000-8022_4-10804572&ontId=8022_4&spi=b5c7fb43cc830a1a662de675889e835b&lop=link&ltype=dl_dlnow&pid=11080953&mfgId=6290020&merId=6290020&pguid=gFBMOgoPjAIAAFuCU6sAAAAw&destUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fdownload.cnet.com%2F3001-8022_4-10804572.html%3Fspi%3Db5c7fb43cc830a1a662de675889e835b%26part%3Ddl-10804572

save the file to your desk top. reboot in safe mode (hold down F8 as soon as it powers on) install the file, skip update, run a full scan and remove infections found. then go to www.comodo.com and install their free firewall and antivirus for your permanent security program. It is a full suite and it is free. If spy sweeper won't uninstall, try to do it in safe mode too. The system cleaner o the comodo website is very good as well and will probably speed your computer up, run the power clean feature after evrything else is done. Let me know if you need anything else.

I have a subsription with McAfee and I cannot download the software before having this webroot spy sweeper removed.I cannot find it on my computer and never had a subscription with this webroot spy...

first uninstall the webroot spy sweeper through the following steps.
1.click start
2.go to control pannel
3.open 'add or remove program'
4.a window will open wait for some time until the list is populated

5 i)in that list find webroot spy sweeper and click remove
go through the uninstall wizard and finish the uninstallation process

5 ii)if you didn't find webroot spy sweeper there then it can be a virus
You need to download a program called MalwareBytes because that searces your entire computer
, finds the virus and completely destroys it.

http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html

Click the green 'download now' button (don't worry - this is free) and once you've downloaded it, got the updates and done a system sweep which takes a long time but it's worth it, you should be fine. It also solves the desktop, wallpaper and screensaver hijack, too.

6. restart your computer

7.open mycomputer click search and do a search for webroot spy sweeper
delete all the files and folders regarding webroot spy sweeper

8.now download mcafee before installing mcafee uninstall MalwareBytes and restart your pc
because at a time only one antivirus software should be used

i think this solution will help you
if the problem is not fixed please inform i will suggest some other ways

Computer

THE LAST OPTION AND THE SAFEST ONE IS THAT BACKUP UR DATA AND FORMAT YOUR HARD DISC. THIS WILL ELIMINATE ANY FURTHER INFECTION BY THE SAME VIRUS IF ITS NOT REMOVED BY THE ANTI VIRUS.
