Question about OKI MICROLINE 380 Matrix Printer

Open Question

Serial printing I want to print one line every 15 seconds by a serial connection. I use the pinning described in the manuals and also use the settings as described is the manual but nothing happens. I am sure there is data send because my laptop is listing with hyperterminal!!! Simple protocol Xon/Xoff , RD on pin 3 printer side (red), TD on pin 2 printer side (orange), signal ground pin 7 printer side (light blue). The parallel connector is cut off at one end!!!! so I connect directly.

SOURCE: Alarm light Microline 320 Turbo 9 pin printer - won't print

We swapped out the printer for another one we had in the office that was working. The new printer also got the alarm light. From that we concluded that it was a bad serial card. We swapped the serial card from another printer, and the original printer started working perfectly. Now we just need to find out where we can purchase another serial card, as we have no more 'spares' around here.

SOURCE: there is a serial port besides the parallel. how can i make it work with serial cable?

I know this is dreadfully old, but when using a Parallel-to-USB adapter with a non-USB printer, once the drivers have been installed for both the printer AND the USB adapter, you often have to point the printer driver to the correct port. Do this by going into the properties for the printer in the Printers folder (right-click, select properties). Select the Ports tab, then scroll down the list until you see the entry for the USB adapter - something like 'USB001 - Virtual USB Printer Port' or similar. Select this, hit 'OK' and give the test print a whirl.

EtherFast Print Server manual

Other gurus might correct me, but I don't think this can easily be done. You are dealing with "parallel" data with the HP and "serial" data with the PC. If your HP has cards you can change, then conversion to serial data is relatively simple, otherwise...

Samsung STP-103 Thermal Printer will not print lines correctly

Wow, serial communications still in use. Naturally, both units have to use the exact same protocol N81 for instance, so make certain the sending unit is set to the same, then check the cable to verify that the appropriate pins are connected and or crossed. I believe your symptoms can be caused by using hardware handshake and having pins 6,8,20 (20 only if a 25pin connector) shorted on the printer end. If possible, you can try switching both devices to software handshake.

Data overrun

I would hazard a guess that the printer is connected via the serial interface.....
If this is the case you either have a problem with you serial interface settings or the serial cable pin configuration does not match the printers serial interface pin configuration..

I would recommend printing a MENU print on the MT661 and check the serial interface settings these NEED TO MATCH THE HOST SYSTEM

To print a menu print.

  • Put the printer OFFLINE
  • Press MODE
  • Press the DOWN ARROW to HELP
  • Press ENTER
A menu print will be printed look for things like Protocol, Baud Rate, Data Bits, Stop Bits etc
These need to be set to match the host computer system.

Trying to setup a Zebra TLP 2844-Z on serial port

Two possibilities are the port configuration and the type of serial cable.

The printer has a feature that will try to match itself to the PC's configuration. Press and hold the feed button until the green status led flashes three times. While the led flashes send a ZPL format to the printer (hopefully you can do this through Design Pro by trying to adjust the printer or print labels, but the labels will not print). When the printer and PC are synchonized, the led changes to solid green.

If you can synchonize but still can't print, the problem might be the serial cable; not all serial cables will work. You should use a full null model cable (all pins connected except 1 and 8).

make sure you have the printer added in the printers window of the control panel. Epson Expert
suggests adding the printer as "generic". Mine is USB, so I have to run their COMUSB program.
Right now I am having a problem printing receipts. It seems the text is too wide for the line.

Zebra LP2844 on com1 long time before starts printing

you need to increase the baud rate of the serial port on the printer and pc, the default baud rate of the serial port is 9600kbp which is heaps slower then the LPT port which can rate atleast 100 times faster.

the reason why it is taking 45sec before printing is because the pc is sending a lot of graphics data to the printer, this can be cause by two main things

1) you could be printing a lot of logos or graphics .

or

2) you are printing using a nonhardware font so the driver has to convert all of the text into graphics. you can fix this by selecting a hardware font (has a printer logo next to it's name in word). also outputting EPL (the printers native command language) would be extreamly quick.

you could also download ZebraDesigner which includes drivers.

i would also recommend not updating the firmware as it can do more harm then good, and if you make a mistake you kill the printer and it voids the warranty

best of luck
