Sony rdr-hx510 machine lights up with hdd error

Try the instructions under "To unlock the disc tray (Child Lock)" on page 53 of this manual.

Try to turn off the machine (deplug it) for at least some minutes - and turn it on again. That worked for me! ;-)

If the DVD asembly is the same as for model RDR-HX510, the part number is 1-797-247-12 and costs: $358.56 with a refund of $145 upon the return of the defective unit. Pricing was from tritronicsinc.com a Sony parts distributor. (I could not find a listing for the HX520 model)

i think its your tv. Have you got a widescreen tv?  when i changed my old tv for an lcd the problem disapeared

Most likely the hard drive is faulty, or it may need resetting/ formatting.
Chances are that the HD has gone.

Have you finalised the dvd disc in the machine ? you must finalise all dvds before playing them in other machines.
