I thought my black ink was defective, I had just replaced it, put in new one along with 2 others that were low as well. This did not help. I did research online, we removed the panel from back of printer and noticed that the black clip on the left side (back L) which was slightly larger than other clips, was out of place. We removed it (all with power cord disconnected) however we were unable to put it back in place without removing entire back plate with screws. So, I tried again to print, it jammed and I removed paper, then it printed though the ink was not consistent and it was light. Not sure what to do next. Seems that the paper jam is related to the ink problem??? Would appreciate any advice available. thanks. [email protected]
Paper jam would not be related to ink problem. printers sense ink via photo cells or magnetic sensers. paper path is mechanical. It sounds that your cartridge is not fully in position, for whatever reason. Hp Printers are better at accepting refill cartdriges than some. But has to be done correctly. But feed problems, are mechanical.

Turn the printer off
Open the back door and
gently turn the paper roller upward until it clicks. Make sure the door is securely closed. Wait a few more minutes then turn the print back on. I hope this helps.

hi lorraine3 -
I hope you didn't 'throw it out the window!' just for a future quick ref, here are a couple fast links to hp support docs about paper jams and blinking lights that might help:

"The print cartridge cradle cannot move."
I fixed this problem by disconnecting the power cord from the power-strip and connecting it directly into the wall. My printer was not getting enough voltage from the power-strip. I hope this helps.
SOURCE: HP laserjet 5500dn paper jam at fuser
Hi,
I was able to fix my problem. On the left side of the fuser assembly there are two small plastic tabs or flags that move up & down. One is attached to the plastic rod/flap that you can see from the top of the fuser and moves when the paper comes out of the "chute". The other tab, which is below the first tab and moves when the paper has passed some point in the fuser, was broken off. I glued the tab back on and now the paper is ejected from the printer like it is suppose to.
I'm thinking that the broken tab was part of a page sensor flag that would tell the printer to stop rolling the fuser assembly when the paper was ejected. Without the flag, the sensor would disengage the fuser prematurely and stop ejecting the paper while the paper was still in the fuser.
