HLP5085W We turned the TV on and heard a pop (like a blast of bulb...bulb going off) , followed by krinkling sound (as if something fallen on fan), we turned the TV off. Now when we turn the TV on, a weird sound comes from the tv for few seconds, the circular light keeps comming on in circle but no happy face, TV doesn't display any picture or sound.

The same thing happened to me last night. I heard a loud pop followed by a crinkling sound. Then my screen went black. I assume it is just the lamp, but wanted to make sure there was not a bigger problem before I replace the lamp only to have it "pop" as well. I have seen other posts that this could be a problem with the color wheel as well.

    Any thoughts?

No picture and an arcing sound from the bulb area. I replaced the bulb and the same problem remains. How can I tell if the new bulb is bad and what other problem could it be that I can repair.

    Thanks

If you look in the back of your tv, you should be able to see the light from the bulb, if the bulb isn't working no light.

I had this happen to my 5085w and it was the color wheel that shattered. Thank god for having the warranty because it was a costly repair from what I recall. It needs to be looked at by a repair shop or if you have the warranty still, send it in.

Dark Picture

Your backlight transformer has failed, this is not a simple fix and requires the replacement or one or more of the boards in the back of your tv.

Replaced bulb now shows only triangle with exclamation mark. no picture and nothing else works

Check your lamp door. If it looks good, remove it. Now, push the lamp door up. Reach around the TV with the remote and try to turn it on. If it comes on, your lamp door wasn't on right. If it doesn't, you may have something going on below the lamp. It the lamp exploded, the hot glass fell out of the lamp and went down into the cooling fan below. It may be stopping it from turning. I hope this helps, best wishes.

Display problem with my Samsung HLP5085W DLP TV

What you are describing sounds like a tuner issue. Samsung had a run of bad tuners, and was recalled. If your watching a chennel and the image tears, this is the sign of the bad tuner. It is possible that the wobulation circuit is unstable. First units we bothered by subwoofers thumping the TV. Not much help other than that, good luck

Read replace lamp then afew weeks later heard pop noise and now black screen

Two things in your TV can make that popping sound. One is the bulb of course and the other is a capacitor. Have you pulled out the bulb to inspect it? My guess is that you have broken glass in the cooling fan, which is why there is a grinding sound. Most bulbs tend to contain the glass from getting everywhere as it's only the filament inside that pops creating little diamond looking pieces inside the lens. If a surge was strong enough or if the bulb was poorly manufactured, the whole unit can explode inside spraying glass everywhere.

If the bulb looks fine, the pop must've been a capacitor on one of your circuit boards resulting in no display. Since the TV still powers on, your power supply and it's fuse appear to be fine. Check the bulb first and go from there.

Recentley my tv just turned off. I heard a buzzing sound which happened the 1st time my bulb went out. So I ordered a new one. When the new one was put in it worked for 5 minutes then turned off and...

This could be a couple of things. Look at the cooling fan and be sure that it can spin freely. If it is stuck, the buzzing could be the motor trying to spin the fan. Other than that, the ballast could be failing as well. This is the part that "fires" the lamp. Examine the fan first and let mw know what happens.

Hi there!
Something did pop. Could be the fuse or something else. My guess as good as yours. Good luck, JUS004
