If you look in the back of your tv, you should be able to see the light from the bulb, if the bulb isn't working no light.

I had this happen to my 5085w and it was the color wheel that shattered. Thank god for having the warranty because it was a costly repair from what I recall. It needs to be looked at by a repair shop or if you have the warranty still, send it in.

The same thing happened to me last night. I heard a loud pop followed by a crinkling sound. Then my screen went black. I assume it is just the lamp, but wanted to make sure there was not a bigger problem before I replace the lamp only to have it "pop" as well. I have seen other posts that this could be a problem with the color wheel as well.
Any thoughts?
We turned the TV on and heard a pop (like a blast of bulb...bulb going off) , followed by krinkling sound (as if something fallen on fan), we turned the TV off. Now when we turn the TV on, a weird sound comes from the tv for few seconds, the circular light keeps comming on in circle but no happy face, TV doesn't display any picture or
No picture and an arcing sound from the bulb area. I replaced the bulb and the same problem remains. How can I tell if the new bulb is bad and what other problem could it be that I can repair.
Thanks
