Uniden handset TCX905 with base unit TRU8866-if compatible?

Compatibility of Uniden handset TCX905 with base unit TRU8866.  Some sources say it is compatible & other say it is not.  Can you confirm whether it is or not?
Thank you.

Thanks for the tip of removing the battery cover. Couldn't get the handset to register until I took this extra step -- which wasn't in the manual!

Thanks for the advice. I removed the cover and it worked! Excellent!

I just successfully registered 4 TCX905s with my TRU8865 base - it's documented in the TCX905 manual.

Be sure the handset you want to register is fully charged.

Remove the handset you want to register from its charger.

Now unplug the AC for the main base, hold down the 'find handset' key on the base and plug the AC in again, when it beeps, you can let go of that button.

Hold down the '#' on the handset you want to register, it will show 'Registering Handset...' and when it beeps, it's done - registered, you're good to go :)

Bought 2 TCX905 to expand TRU8885. The registration instructions didn't work; tried many times. Finally removed the battery covers of the new handsets so that they would fit into the base and they registered without any problems.

I biught a TRU9496 base which was packaged with one additional 905 handset.

A few days later I purchased 2 additional TCX905 handset units and after 3 days of charging they still wouldn't register. The directions said to depress the "#" key for 2 seconds and that didn't work.

SOLUTION:

1. First, remove the battery cover on your unregistered TCX905 and look under the battery to confirm that you indeed purchased a TCX905 because some Uniden handsets were packaged as 905's but were not.

2. Take the fully charged unregistered 905 to the base unit TRU9496.

3. On the TRU 9496 base unit press "Menu" then select "Registration" and press OK

4. You should get the message "press the # key on the remote handset".

5. Depress the "#" key on the unregistered 905 and it should register.

Forget what I said before, the TCX905 does NOT fit into the TRU 8866 base unit with the battery cover on.

REMOVE THE BATTERY COVER TO REGISTER THE TCX905 WITH THE TRU8866 and everything works fine....

You are a genius! Would it have been so difficult for Uniden to include that in the instructions? I thought I was going to have to send all the extra handsets back and voila! you made it work.

I just picked up a TCX905 and it wont fit into the TRU8866.

Since it will NOT fit into the 2-line base unit, it does not appear to be compatible.

Purchased addt'l handset to work with my CEZAI2998. It has a corded handset in the base and an accessory handset with charger. Needed another accessory handset; purchased EZX290 but can't get it to...

Hi,

The CEZAI2998 does allow up to a total of 6 handsets, but your issue is that the EZX290 handset is not one that will function with that system. I have listed below the compatible handset models for that Uniden unit and as you can see the EZX290 is not supported. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, hopefully you can exchange it for a compatible handset. Good luck!!

EJ

Compatible with select Uniden handsets
Including models DCX150, DCX200, DCX210, DCX290, DCX300 and DWX207 for wide-ranging compatibility.

Hand set tcx905 will not register on uniden base tru8866

Remove the plastic battery cover from the handset (but keep the a battery connected), then place the handset on the base. That will enable the metal contacts at the bottom of the handset to touch the ones on the bottom of the base.

I have a tcx905s handset that will not register to my tru9496 base. Uniden claimed that 905s units will work with this base. However, they said that refurbished units will not work. Is this true?

Not sure about the refurbish issue...but have you tried to de-register the handset by holding down the end key and the # key, then placing on the main base unit to register with your system.

I need to deregister missing handset #1

To de-register HANDSET #1:

1) Grab any working handset which is registered to your base (so HANDSET #2 or #3 in your case)

2) Press and hold the "END" + "#" key for 5+ seconds (wait for it to beep)

3) Choose the "Deregister HS" menu option

4) Pick HANDSET #1 as the handset ot de-register (since that's the "phantom" registered handset)

5) Once de-registered, you can de-register handsets #2 and #3 directly from each handset's "normal" menu interface (i.e. press "Menu", choose "Deregistration")

6) Thereafter, if you re-register your handset, they should start at HANDSET #1, then #2, and so on.

Uniden TCX905 cCordess phone Handsets # 3 and 4

If the handsets are not currently registered to any base, the SYSTEM RESET menu won't appear.

If the TCX905 handsets in question are actually expansion handsets from another Uniden Phone System, they are not true TCX905 handsets. To verify, remove the battery cover and battery, then look at the inside label. If it lists the model of a TRU9xxx phone system, your handsets are NOT TCX905.

Uniden unfortunately has programmed the expansion handsets from SINGLE LINE TRU9xxx phone systems to NOT REGISTER against the TRU9466. (Those same handsets register fine against predecessor model TRU8866 though).

We had Uniden model TRU8866. Handset #2 was damaged and lost. We purchased a new phone through Uniden. It says Set #4 on it. We would like it to say #2 The new phone is a Power max5.8ghz.

In order to re-register handsets with TRU8866 base unit, you have to reset the base unit, de-register the handsets, and then re-register the handsets. To reset the base station, disconnect the power from the base and then press and hold the CID, Intercom, and Exit keys while you connect the power. Wait for the beep, and let go of the keys. Now re-register the handsets - the first one will become #1, and so on.

NEED TO DEREGISTER LOST HANDSET

The "END" and "#" key combination can be used for several purposes:

1) If wanting to use an ALREADY REGISTERED HANDSET on an alternate base, and if if the INITIAL BASE isn't available to deregister the handset:

1a) Press "END" + "#" until it for 5+ seconds (wait for it to beep)
1b) Choose the "Base Unavailable" option
1c) That'll deregister the CURRENT HANDSET so that it can be re-registered on ANY base.

2) If a BASE has a handset registered to it which you no longer want registered but the registered handset is missing or broken:

2a) Grab another WORKING handset which is properly REGISTERED to the BASE in question
2b) Press and hold the "END" + "#" key for 5+ seconds (wait for it to beep)
2c) Choose the "Deregister HS" menu option
2d) Pick the REGISTERED HANDSET # to de-register. (Every other registered handset EXCEPT THE ONE YOU'RE ON will appear in the list!)
