Well these are common problems with ALL vehicles at some point... but a 2004 model with only 50000 on the clock sounds like a good buy for the right price!! Probably cost about $1000-1500(and maybe not even that much) so maybe heckle the price down about say $2000 and work from there!!
There's no certain timeline to change thermostat,usually since they are cheap and easy to install,change it when antifreeze is changed.People usually wait till problems occur before replacing.I change mine every 3 years.

its in the trunk, remove the panel that says navigation, hit the eject button and replace the disk. make sure the car is on while you do this. it will automatically load the new disk
I hate to say it, but you'll probably need to see the dealer for the programing steps and code. Unless a local locksmith is able to reprogram the security system, the dealer will have to.
