Question about Technics SL-BD20D Turntable
All this time I didn't know anything about the ground wire. I looked at the back and I don't have one. I cant seem to find one -anyone know how to do this? I do have a loud HUMMM when I turn the volume up and I also hear a very low radio signal coming out of the speakers.
I just checked my Technics turntable to be sure and there should be a thin black wire that comes out of the rear where the AC line cord connects. If you don't see a wire, someone may have clipped it off. You may have to disassemble you turntable enough to get access underneath and install a new wire.

You will more than likely need to wire it up from the inside of the unit, unfortunately. Parts for this model are discontinued. You can also try an iPod cable. As the size is a 1/8" plug - same as an iPod cable, then just cut the other end, and ground to your receiver.

It is most likely you have an acoutsic coupling to the decks from the work surface, mixer, or a roadcase. If any part of the body of the deck is touching anything else, then you will get rumble and acoustic feedback problems. the deck should rest evenly on its own 4 legs, clear of anthing else. Technics sl1200 series decks are the best in the world for acoustic isolation. There will always be some feedback from your decks to speakers. However, only with a really high powered system should give you problems, DJ booths are sometimes suspended from the roof just to eliminate this rumble.
A 1/3 octave EQ (31band) can also be effective at reducing feedback.

I have found out that the female phono plugs on the turntable are sensative and have to have a solid connection and often adjusted from time to time to eliminate the 60 cycle hum.
