First of all, what kind of a loud is it making?  Is it a loud squeak, clunk, bang, or jet engine sound?

If it is a loud jet engine sound, then your tumbler bearing is wearing out.  You could try oiling it, but [probably you will have to replace it.  It’s a big job and even if you do it yourself, the best and easiest way to do it is expensive.

I recommend first of all ordering a repair manual.  Or at least see if the parts come with detailed instructions on how to take out the old bearing and install the new.  You will probably have to replace the entire outer drum assembly.  It's much more expensive in parts to do it that way than to just replace the bearings and seals, but much much easier and faster.  Personally, I've replaced the entire drum assembly and also tried to replace just the bearings and seals.  In the end I wasted the money on the bearings and seals and got an new assembly.  I'd recommend just going for the new assembly and saving time.

Is it a maytag? My maytag front load washing machine had 2 long bolts with plastic braces on them, to keep the drum still during shipping. Mine would bang and shake all over. I got the book out before I finally figured it out. I had to take the back cover off and remove the bolts and plastic braces over them. They look like they' 8 inches long or so. It works great now.

The noise you can hear is the drum bearings, the seal between the drum and bearings has failed and let water into the bearings which has destroyed the bearings.

The spin cycle is very noisy. What could be the problem?

hi robyn.
A washer making a loud noise during spin cycle can also be caused by a faulty drive pulley. The pulley is what the belt (if applicable to yourwasher) rides on to spin your washers tub. The pulley can be made of plastic or metal. It could be simply worn out or just loose.27 Jul 2015

Motor makes loud rattling noise during rinse cycle

could be the coupler and the only way to truely check it is to take the pump, then the motor off. But it seems strange to me that you say it works fine. Is it spinning? usually when the coupler breaks it sounds horrible and usually will not spin but it will drain.I would check the coupler again.

Rattling noise during spin cycle

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

I have a kenmore 70 series washer, the machine won't spin. I hear the clutch but it's not engaging. The pump to remove the water seems to be operating but the tub just won't spin and makes a loud noise.

The loud noise (sounds like rattling or grinding) is the motor coupler. It's between the motor and the transmission. This part takes the place of the belt, and costs about $20.00.

Good luck!

Loud Noise - Spin Cycle

If the washer is making a squealing noise, the problem is more likely to be the basket drive. If it is more like a rattling sound, the centerpost bearings are probably worn out. Open machine's rear panel and spin the basket manually by turning the drive pulley, to find out from where exactly the noise come from. Defective part should be replaced. Good luck !!
