Connect a Ethernet cable from your PC directly to the router and try to open the page 192.168.1.1 with "admin" as user and password.

SOURCE: how to change router default name and password

you can't change the default name...that is always left blank, but you can change the password.

Access the user interface & click on Administration.  It should automatically be in the Management section at this point.

Enter your desired password in the Router Password field.
Re-enter to confirm the password in the next field.

Click on Save Settings.

For more information on working with your router, you can access the User Guide provided by LinkSys:

SOURCE: trying to change the router settings to secure -

Hi,

If the user name and password doesn't seem to work for you. Press and hold the red reset button on the back of the router for about 5 seconds. This will set it back to the factory defaults, were the blank user name and admin password will work for you. Once you accomplish that, you'll be able to setup your secure connection.

Good Luck,

and don't forget to leave a rating.

Thanks

Cannot open router setup page

Use the default user name and password according to your router's manual. If it wont work you have to reset the router, so that everything will go back it to factory settings. Just look for the reset button or a reset pin hole on the back of the router. Press and hold it for 10seconds then let go. Re-enter the default user name and password, this time it should work.

How do i set a password

Router's password could mean 2 things. First password for you to open router's configuration page or password for you to connect wireless to your router.

Configuration's password:
-Logon to your router configuration page
-Please to the TOOLS and ADMIN Tab. You there you can change the admin user name and password. If you do not have the user name and password, please check for the default user name and password on the router's manual. If default user name and password won't work reset the router. Press and hold down the reset button or pinhole on the back of the router for 10 seconds. Then re-enter user name and password again. It should work this time.

Wireless Security Password:

-Logon to your router configuration page
-Under SETUP and Wireless Settings tab you will get an option to change the wireless password

I switched ISP's and got a new dsl modem and now my router will not work. I can not find a disk for the router or any instructions. I have a Dynex 10/100m router. Help!!

Usually you need to program your router with the ISP's informations, is your ISP using PPPOE (user name & password required) to connect to there server or is it DHCP (automatic IP)???, once you have these informations you open your browser, than enter the IP address of the router in the address bar of the browser, than enter the user name & password of the router, go to the SETUP tab and select the correct type of connection (PPPOE or DHCP) if it's DHCP you normally don't need a user name & password than save & restart the router, if it's PPPOE you need to enter a user name & password (supplied by the ISP) than save & restart the router....

to find the ip address of the router, once your computer is connected to the router you click START, than RUN, type CMD in the bar, than a black window will pop up, type IPCONFIG, look for DEFAULT GATEWAY, note the IP address in the form of numbers separated with dots (ex: 192.168.0.1)

if you can't log in the router (unknown user name & password) than you have to RESET the router by pressing and holding the reset switch (usually in the back of the unit) for 20 seconds, this will bring the router to factory default, than you can log in with the default user name & password according to the router's manual...

You could try calling your new ISP's help desk, they can walk you through the setup if they are a GOOD and serious supplier...

Good luck!

I want to change password for wifi network

1
Open up an Internet browser window on your computer system. To gain access to the default settings, type in the default IP address of the wireless router in your Internet browser's address bar and press enter. You must refer to the wireless router's documentation or navigate to the manufacturer's website for the correct IP address.

2
Type the default user name and password in the security dialog box that appears, then press Enter on your keyboard. Because different router manufacturers use different default user names and passwords, refer back to your router's documentation or support webpage for the correct information.

3
Navigate through the router administration pages to find the wireless router's administrator password settings. Change the default user name and password to a unique set so that possible unauthorized access to your router settings will not take place. Make sure to hit "Save Settings" to complete the change.

4
Set up your wireless security settings by navigating to the proper administration settings page. By default, wireless routers do not come with a password for connectivity access. Choose the appropriate wireless security level you need and type in a unique user name and password. Save these new settings and log out of the router's administration setup.

5
Write down the user names and passwords for both network access and the administration setup page. Keep these user names and passwords in a safe place.

Thanks.
Have a great day.
