The telescope is supposed to automatically align with magnetic North and then to 2 alignment stars. I called Meade and they told me to calibrate the motors--which I did.---The telescope will automatically calculate level and then goes to Calculate North Mode---but all it does is slew continuously around in a circle.--I let it slew for several minutes before I turned it off. I have retried this several times.
I had that happen to me on my DS2080. I had the LNT/Smartfinder module installed backwards. I unscrewed it and turned it around, and it worked fine.I had that happen to me on my DS2080. I had the LNT/Smartfinder module installed backwards. I unscrewed it and turned it around, and it worked fine.
Thanks Guys---I kept going back to Meade for assistance and they finally sent me a brand new telescope.---This is after replacing the smartfinder module and onboard computer.---The new one aligns fine.

My scope always goes NW no matter what I do and everthing is off after that. tried everything. Custumer service just says cal. moters and sensors but that doesnt help. I also face the same issue. Suprizingly, there is a place close to my window where it would not align to the north and keeps rotating in circle. But if I move the telescope to the center of the room or someother place in the house, it acurately finds North in one go. I think, there is some magnetic field disturbance in the place close to me window, So if you telescope is continously rotated while tryin to find north, move it to another location and try again.

Are you running this scope off of the internal batteries? If you are put in fresh batteries. The hand controller will go wacko once the batteries fall below about 60% charge. We always recommend that goto scopes be run from a separate 12 volt power pack. If new batteries to not solve the problem, return the scope to the dealer while it is still under warranty.
The alignment stars will be nearby BUT MAY NOT BE in the eyepiece-- you must center the alignment stars using the hand controller-- after you center the second star the GOTOs should be OK.
Did you read the manual completely-- most of the DS telescope series require that you-- eneter Time, Date, and Site, set Daylight Savings Time, and TRAIN the scope.
Then you select Automatic alignment and center the two alignment stars-- these scopes usually have a HOME position which you should read about.
use the laser pointer that you put on the telescope when you were putting it together. or take the whole front cover off and look at the reflector and see if you see anything if you do try it again and see if this info helps please respond thanks and your welcome
