Question about Whirlpool Ultimate Care II LSQ9549L Top Load Washer
The hot shuts off but the cold only shuts off part way. I have the machine apart
Hello. It is a good possibility that the solenoid for the cold water has gone bad. Since the Cold and the hot are in the same bracket assembly, you will need to change both at once. A Sears parts department is a good source for a replacement. They will need your machine make, model and perhaps serial number to locate the appropriate replacement shutoff valve. It is always a good idea to take the old part with you since the person at the parts research desk may know less about what yu need than you do. Help them out with the old part as an example if you can. This usually helps to prevent return trips for the same repair part because the new one just won't fit where the original was. I do not know your level of expertise, so just in case you are not versed in such things, the shutoff valve assembly is the part that the hot and cold hoses attach to on the washing machine. Before removing, be sure to turn off the water valve feeding the hose. If might even be advisable to turn the machine on to bleed off the pressure in a fill cycle or you will make a mess when you unscrew the hoses. ALSO: be extremely careful not to let the electrical circuits come onto contact with the water at all! Safety first! It is hard to enjoy the repair of your washer if you should accidentally electrocute yourself in the process! BE CAREFUL! I hope this helps.

Jeff, your water inlet valve has failed and should be replaced. Since you already have the machine apart, you can see it mounted to the rear panel on the right hand side.
The part number is 285805 and can be purchased at your local appliance parts retailer for around $25.00, or can be purchased online here.
