Compressor stops running.

In both AC & dehumidifier modes, the compressor runs for 15-20 minutes & then stops. Unit still on; fan still running.

SOURCE: Haier Mini spilt HSU18VC7 compressor runs for 5

This is called short cycling. It sounds like the compressor is getting hot and opening a bi-metal overload, which shuts the compressor off. The compressor cools, because it is not running and the bi-metal contacts close allowing the compressor to start again. This will repeat itself and is usually due to low refrigerant, which usually means there is a leak in the normally sealed refrigerant lines. The refrigerant cools the compressor windings and if it is low it cannot do that, hence the shutting off of teh compressor, cooling down process and restarting of your compressor. Short cycling will ultimately ruin the compressor.

If this has helped you please give me a rating worthy of my diagnosis.

Have someone check the run capacitor of this unit. If the run capacitor is bad over shorted it can cause the unit to run and short cycle on a current overdraw. This makes for an electrical imbalance in the compressor motor. Next step is the compressor is faulty.

Until now this unit has never had the compressor run without the fan. Is the compressor running without the fan a problem? If so, what can I do to correct it?

Possibly a tstat issue. Run system until satisfied, once satisfied indoor fan shuts down compressor still runs remove tstat face plate and see if compressor shuts down. Another issue could be a sticking contactor for compressor. With a meter you could check at the contactor to see if you lose your 24volts for cooling but contactor remains pulled in.

Why does the fan run non stop? the compressor runs and shuts off but the fan just runs on high and low. I have 3 other dehumidifiers that the fan runs only when the compressor runs...why doesnt the...

Depending on the time sequence you have this unit set to run, Fredrich's are designed so that the fan runs almost constantly, to keep the air moving. When it senses a rise in humidity above the level you have it set on, the compressor turns ON and runs until the level of humidity is lowered. This is especially true, if you are operating this unit in continual mode.

Hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have the a Kenmore dehumidifier sometimes it runs fine and other times just the fan runs not the compressor or just the opposite the compressor runs not the fan it is only 2 1/2 years old. What should...

Kathy, I'm not sure you have a problem with the dehumidifier. Depending on which mode you're operating it in, the fan will run in an effort to recirculate the air. If the humidity level rises above the level you have the unit set on, the compressor will then turn ON. This is particularly true, if the unit is operating in continual mode. Then there are other times the fan isn't active, but the compressor turns on when the humidity sensor feels a rise in humidity. So, for the most part, I don't think it's a problem.

Just be sure that you clean the air intake filter at least once every two weeks, during times of daily operation.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

Does the fan shut off once the air conditioner reaches the temperature selected by the owner or does it continuously run when the air conditioner is on?

If this is a multifunction unit (AC/Dehumidifier) and you have it set on Dehumidify Mode as well as AC, yes , it will continue to run. If you don't have unit like this, but maybe have an economy mode, it will continue to run for awhile too. If you have neither, then no, it should stop running soon after the compressor turns OFF.

Hope this helped you.

Compressor stops at proper humidity % but the fan keeps running.

Dehumidifiers are built that way. They keep moving air so it is able to keep any change of conditions moving around the room. On a dehumidifier, it the fan stops, your unit will short cycle becasue water will naturally evaporate from the water tank and it would turn on, then off, then on then off. The way it runs now is fine. Running the fan 24 hours on your dehumidifier cost nickels a day. Just let run.

Unit fan is running but the compressor is not.

It could be a bad compressor, circuit board, or maybe even a sensor or dehumidistat...
Here is a tip about dehumidifiers that run but do not extract water from the air..

Humidifier compressor does not stay on more than 1-2 minutes

Sounds like bad relay on compressor or bad compressor. There is only so far you can go yourself without knowledge in electrical and AC units. Suggest you call a service tech or if you can take it to service cemter near you. Russ

Year 2005 cycling fan and compressor

Your unit is probably operating in defrost mode. When you use a dehumidifier in a cold room, the condensing coils can freeze water. The unit senses this and thus stops the compressor until the water frozen on the coils melts. Then it resumes its cycle. This is a problem you will have during the winter months. It makes the operation of the unit inefficient, but this is otherwise normal behavior.

DH30 Dehumidifier Compressor Does not Operate

I just picked one up at a tag sale, seller said it worked sometimes. Seems to have the same problem as yours. I took the time to tweak all of the connections and then re-soldered the control board with no luck. I finally disconnected the humidity control and it worked fine. By disconnecting the humidity control the unit defaults to it's highest setting and you have to unplug the unit to turn it off. Conclusion so far is that the humidity control rheostat is bad.
Note: Now while running the fan runs continuously and the compressor cycles on and off every 10 to 15 minutes. This may to be normal since the unit appears to be doing its job and I'm not sure how it is supposed to run since a purchased it broken.
