With the car parked and engine idling, turn the ventilation control between windshield defroster and "open air ducts" to front and rear vents. Listen to pinpoint where the valves are that open and closes the air ducts. It sounds like the air duct to rear vents are blocked, and the cold air in rear air duct is coming from "outside ventilation." The air vent to allow hot air to the rear vent is stuck in "open ventilation" mode, like when you're driving in spring or summer months.

Item Part Number Description 1 — Air inlet door 2 — Temperature blend door 3 — Headliner airflow 4 — Auxiliary mode door 5 — Floor airflow 6 18476 Heater core 7 19860 Evaporator core 8 19805 Blower motor
The auxiliary A/C and heating system has the following features:

  • The auxiliary A/C and heating system is functional whenever the instrument panel mounted A/C control is in any position except OFF.
  • The auxiliary blower motor recirculates the air inside the vehicle. Outside air is not available to the auxiliary system.
  • Air is cooled and dehumidified by the auxiliary A/C evaporator core only if the instrument panel mounted A/C control is adjusted to a position that requires A/C compressor operation.
  • The temperature blend door and the auxiliary mode door are controlled by electric actuator motors.
  • Movement of the auxiliary temperature control between COOL and WARM causes a corresponding movement of the temperature blend door to mix air flowing through and around the auxiliary heater core.
  • Movement of the auxiliary mode control between PANEL and FLOOR causes a corresponding movement of the auxiliary mode door to direct air flow between the panel (headliner) registers and the floor duct.
---------------------------------------
I would say the auxiliary mode door (#4) electric motor is not wokring.

Auxiliary Blend Door Actuator —Air Distribution Removal and Installation
  1. Remove the RH quarter trim panel cup holder and access panel.
  1. Remove the screws.
  1. Disconnect the blend door actuator electrical connector.
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

SOURCE: Vent control

You have a vacuum leak.Defrost is the default postion(no vacuum).
See if you can locate the small black vacuum line that goes inside the vehicle on the passenger side near the heater core. The trace it back, should see it going to a canister then to the intake manifold.Make sure it is not disconnected or broken somewhere.

SOURCE: heater is blowing but its cold air not hot air 2000 expedition

Make sure the heater core is in the open position by using the shut off valve and turning it to open. next, you may have a malfunction in the direction door the directs the air flow in the dash. a lever may have become lose or separated. may be a bad servo motor not directing the door to move to the heater position. i would start by checking that shut off valve first on the heater core.

My heat works great in the front but the rear vents only blow cold

The blend door actuator is located in the left rear quater panel. It's right there when you remove the trim panel (left side rear) Below is a picture of it when panel is removed along with another picture of the air duct system. I also gave you a picture of the connector at the actuator. Make sure you are geting power and test opening and closing. Worst case you could make the blend door stay to where you are geting heat until you can repair the problem...11_6_2012_12_34_03_am.jpg11_6_2012_12_34_21_am.jpg11_6_2012_12_34_35_am.jpg11_6_2012_12_34_48_am.jpg

I have a 2001 expedition and the front vents blow hot air with ac on.back vents blow cold so i know its charged and compressor works.what can it be?

Check the blend doors found deep in the air duct underneath the dashboard. There may be loose linkages or the motor may not be working.

2003 ford expedition front heat and air work, but rear puts out cold when its cold out and heat when its hot out, no matter what setting.

there are 2 blend doors in back on the passenger side rear. one controls heat settings and the other mode floor or upper vents. These go bad and there is usually a clicking noise.

your controls have problems. the heat is there it is just not getting out because your control lines are not setting the vent controls into the proper positions. i had a chev van that lost some of the foam in side there and it blocked the whole front off. i had to rip it all apart to get at it
