Hi I have a Toshiba 50H72 50 Rear projection TV that is 4-5 years old. It has recently been flashing the picture when it is first turned on. After about 5-10 mins it works perfectly. Any ideas? Thanks Steve

Re: Flashing picture when start up
What i would do id purchase a can of freeze from radio shack wait till the picture is good then freeze one ic at a time till the problem shows up, once it shows up let it warm back up and refreeze to make sure you got the correct part. found this on anther site: My first guess is an electrolytic cap in the main power supply and/or a voltage regulator that feeds the deflection amplifiers.
The cost of repair is not much; the greatest challenge is finding the
bad cap because there are so many of them and scattered through out the
If you have a scope and can look at some waveforms and voltages around
the deflection and power supply feeds you may be able to zero in on it

You need a new HV transformer. Usually you can just buy the transformer itself. It's a little black tower on the backside of the tv. If it's not that, it's the convergence ic's. There's two of them, given it's a toshiba, the part number is more than likely stk392-110.
I have a wild guess. I have the same tv and channel 72 is the proper channel to watch tv on. I don't know why, but maybe try channel 72 instead of the usual channel 3. Good luck, maybe a quick fix, maybe not!
