Maytag washer My laundry smellsl a bit even after washing and drying, especially towels. My old (older than 10 years) Maytag washer doesn't always spin all the water out, so I have to spin them again. And I think there's a leak in the water line inside the machine. Is it time to replace or can I just repair?

If the belts haven't been replaced in a while, change them. after a eriod of ti,e belts will stretch, and become worn. this will prevent the washer from spinning out most of the water

Depending on how old it is, you should just be able to repair the unit if you have the will-to-do.  The smell more than likely is coming from a possible mildew growth inside the machine.  Sometimes you can remove the inner basket and clean the inner and outer baskets.  If you can find the leak (which on older models shouldn't be to hard to do), you should be able to correct pretty easy.  Be sure to check hose coming off water mixing valve and the smaller tube for the water level switch (will run off of outer basket up to console).  Be sure that hose doesnt come off because washer will keep on filling (and it will to).  If you get leak stopped, try getting some strong bleach, and washing a "no-load" a couple of times at high level in hot water.  This may get rid of the problem.   Jim

Whirlpool washer spin cycle drum banging on side

Well you have done everything that you can do and expertly tested and diagnosed. The problem is doing all the towels together. The only way to fix is mix towels with other laundry or buy a front loader because the tumbling action evens out the load better.

Will not spin the clothes dry it's seem it is not balanced ?

You may have One wet heavy item (one sweatshirt or one bath towel) that is not evenly dispersed within the wash tub, and this will prevent the machine from reaching and completing the spin cycle.

My old Maytag washing machine (over 20yrs) doesn't fully spin "dry" a larger load of laundry.

Hello,

The things to check on that old and reliable washer are obviously the belts and the motor slides..the motor slides one way to tension the belt on spin and the other way to tension the belts even tighter during the spin.

If your motor carriage is rusty the entire carriage could be replaced and keep that older washer going for a long time to come

The part numbers for the belts is 12112425
motor rollers kit 205999

Check out this page for a real good diagram of how they fit http://www.the-appliance-clinic.com/mytgmtrrollers.html

The parts can be purchased at your local appliance parts store on online at
searspartsdirect.com

I hope i have been able to help you fix your washer,

Hello: I have a Maytag, do not know model # as I inherited the 5 year old model when I purchased a condo and it is now 7 years old. The front of it states Maytag - Dependable Use, Heavy Dtuty - Large...

I ALWAYS START WITH VENTING WHEN CALLED WITH LONG DRYING TIMES BUT I HAVE SEEN WHERE ONLY HALF OF THE HEATING ELEMENT IS WORKING, WHICH IS PRETTY RARE. A NORMAL LOAD WOULD BE WHATEVER THE WASHER HAD IN IT WHICH WOULD BE LOOSLY FILLED TO THE TOP ROW OF HOLES IN THE WASHER TUB. THE ONLY OTHER QUESTION I WOULD ASK IS IF THE WASHER SEEMS TO BE SPINNING OUT PROPERLY AND IF THE CLOTHES ARE GOING INTO THE DRYER TOO WET.

Maytag Washer MDE7400AYW goes off balance while spinning about half the time. Walks across room. Springs are OK. Tub seems very easy to move from side to side by hand.

Typically when the drum spins and walks the washer, it is a loading issue.
As the clothes spin, they collect on 1 side, due to cintrifical force acting upon an uneven load.
THis is especially prevalent in loads that are:
1. small,
2. contain lots of towels and
3. anything else that really holds water and is very heavy when wet (like comfortors, pillows)

These will very quickly throw the load off-balance.

When it happens, pull out some of the itmes, and re-load the laundry more evenly around the drum. Be sure to circle the post with towels and sheets, etc.

If you continue to run the machine off-balance for an extended time, the bearings and seals will wear quickly. Unfortunately, you will only know this when the washer begins to leak out under the machine onto the floor.

Hopefully this will fix-ya....if not let me know please!

My old Hoover top loader Washer is noisy & doesn't spin out properly - how can I fix it?

Sounds like the switch which cuts the machine off when the load is unbalanced. My guess is that: This switch is being triggered too easily The springs holding the bowl up are either stretched or one is broken; The machine may not be level.

Bad smell

washers and dryers dont make smells themselves its a problem with something u might be putting in it. if u tend to add alot more detergent then usual to your towels then they never completely rinse the water out and will have a mildew smell
