Printer does not recognise colour cartridge. Message keeps coming up as
print cartridge missing even though I have replaced it with a new
cartridge. I have taken both cartridges out several times and
reinstalled but the message keeps saying PRINT CARTRIDGE MISSING. Any
help would be appreciated. thanks

Re: lexmark x1180 printer all in one
Clean the contacts on the cartidge and printer ( open the replace ink door wait for the printhead to come to center and turn off power) if that does not work then replace cartridge, it might be a recycled one that they did not chane the chip.

Open the printer and remove the ink. Clean around the ink carriage and
the under the ink with alcohol and a cotton swab. Pay special attention
to areas with copper contacts. Keep
in mind too that some printers will not print, even with full ink, if
the exact type of ink it expected you to have installed is not right. Double
check that the ink is correct against the manual or written
instructions inside the printer using the number not the shape or color of the cartridge. Not every cartridge that fits the
printer necessarily works.
I got a new print head @ "staples" office supplies. It didnt cost me anything!!! Kodak had probs with the head, & gave a bunch to staples.....i changed the head, put in new inks, again...got a calibration to run...& things printed np!!!
hi steve... the solution to your problem is a costly one. the printer keeps in memory 2 cartidges for colour and 2 for black, when a third is placed in the printer the first one is deleted out of memory same for the colouredand same for the black... therefore you need 3 cartridges each to do the trick.
eg. if you want to use colour cartridge #2 then 1st place colour nuber 1 or 3, then turn it on let it reads, then open door and place in colour number 3 or 1 let it read, then take out and place in coulur number 2 and it will see it as new
If these are new cartridges then you can try wiping the contacts and the pins with a dry paper towel then re install them. do not us tissue as some of them have lotion on them. If these are remanufactured cartridges return them for an exchange.
