It will need a magnetron and maybe a large capacitor soon

That pop was the magnetron frying. This is a repairable problem, but feirly expensive, around $300 if you have it done by a professional.

Please rate my response if it was helpful to you.

SOURCE: MAYTAG MMV4205BAS Running but not heating

If the food in the cooking compartment is not heating at all, then you may have one of several components related to microwave energy generation that have failed or became disconnected internally.
Magnetron Tube, HV Capacitor, Filament Transformer or any number of sensors that disable power to the system. The control board could also cause the system to noty function correctly.. You wanted general inputs.. there ya go.. LOL
Not sure I told you anything you didn't already know but you should ask the tech what he did after he gets it going...

Rick

SOURCE: Microwave makes loud noise and does not heat. Smell of light burning

Chances are you have a bad magnetron.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

We're happy to help you and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

SOURCE: Microwave does not heat

Just had the same experience with the identical model. Removed the cover (a challenge because of the security screws), revealing valuable troubleshooting directions intended for an experienced technician. However, I think the info is well within the reach of a typical DIY person, does not require any dangerous power-on conditions. However, make sure that you discharge the HV capacitor before trouble shooting. In my case, it appears that the HV diode is open, have ordered a replacement on the internet for $3.18, easy to replace. Hope it works. Good luck.

SOURCE: Microwave won't heat food.

My Whirlpool microwave, over the stove, stopped working when my son used it to heat his food and a heavy sound came out, like something exploded in it. When I check it, there was nothing broke. Everything works fine except that it does not heat. I will appreciate any help

AccuWave Magnetron - "Continuous Power Levels" WhirlPool MicroWave Oven

It certainly sounds like something is wrong. My first GE microwave was like this and it wasn't advertised as anything special. After a long life I replaced it with a Sharp (makes most all microwaves) and was disappointed at the cycling on and off. Now Panasonic makes what they call Inverter microwaves with continuous power. I recently bought a GE (probably made by Panasonic) with this Inverter technology and am very pleased with it. Make sure the microwave you have says AccuWave on it, if it does, it sounds like the magnetron may have been replaced with a non-continuous type of magnetron. Was it bought refurbished/returned/clearanced? I think when I was researching this that it MAY have something to do with the type of power supply to the magnetron and not so much the magnetron itself.

Mu accuwaave makes a short noise intermittenly while trying to heat

Hi,

Is your microwave oven set to full power when the intermittent noise occurs?

If it's set to a lower power rating, then the noise you describe sounds perfectly normal.
At a lower power setting, the device which creates the heat or microwaves, called the magnetron, switches on and off intermittently so that the food etc. is not cooked too fast.
This is quite normal & you should only be concerned if the noise occurs while the microwave oven is set to full power.
In that case you will have to have it checked out to see what the cause is.

Best wishes,

Whirlpool Gold Accuwave wont heat

Hi, there are three issues that will cause a no heat situation in a microwave. these issue are a failed Magnetron, busted cut-off fuse and, failed diode.

I recommend checking all these area that are located inside the microwave for faults.

The most common issue will be a failed Magnetron.

The diode and, fuse will be located on the noise filter assembly.

No heat but everything else works

Sounds like the magnetron has failed. This is the component that produces the microwaves that heats the food.

The cost of the magnetron is about 95% of the cost of a microwave oven. Most people don't, for this reason, replace the magnetron, they replace the whole oven which is probably what you will end up doing.

There is a possibility that the circuit that provides power to the magnetron is faulty and you need to take it apart, find the proper electrical leads and test them with a volt meter. To do this you have to remove it from its mounting and take it apart. It is a fairly lengthy process however.
