MOTOROLA DCH-3416 FOR COMCAST: will it work if i buy one ..

Can you tell me if i buy one of these off e-bay, will it work when i hook it up to a tv. i already have one in my living room. The wife wants one in her sewing room. but comcast wants an extra $25/mo. There are several of these boxes on e-bay saying they are for comcast providers, but will it really work without comcast knowing? Thanks for any help...Jim

You are all wrong. You can purchase one off eBay or directly from Motorola. Comcast will treat it the same way they treat Tivo boxes. You will need to lease the M-Card from Comcast for around $2 a month. They will even come out and install it.

The same thing goes if you have a new TV with an M-Card slot.

No it will not work. It will have to be set up and flashed by comcast, so there is no way to use it with out them knowing it.

I just bought a Motorola DCH 3416 from ebay and picked up an M card from Comcast and after one hour of being on the phone with the Philippines CS Rep for Comcast, pairing all the numbers for Cable Card, Data and Host ID's and waiting for code module to count down, IT WORKED!!! No On Demand or HBO (which we subscribe to) but all other channels YES. It works!!!

It will not work without being provisioned by comcast. I am a technician for comcast and have little doubt they will provision it at no charge.

I have no IP. How do I fix this?

I'm unsure why you think it would have an IP address on the DVR. Does it actually have a network connection jack?
The manual doesn't reveal anything about networking:

Comcast is useless. Got a Motorola 6200 from comcast office. Diagram was for 3 hookups. Physical cable they gave me has 5. Colors don't match. What do I hook up to what? How do I activate? Their phone...

if you are using HD. the colors do not really make a difference so to speak. just make sure whatever you hook to the red video goes to red video of tv and same with blue and green. then the same with red and white audio (some cables come with 3 thicker and two thiner to help with which should be audio and video) try 1800comcast

Connecting HD cable box to DVR too HDTV

When I hooked up my HD cable box using an HDMI cable, I had to go into the cable screen menus and select HDMI output. You may have to do something similar when using an S-video cable. Your DVD recorder doesn't seem to have an HDMI input, so you'll have to use the S-video or (worst case) composite video (red, white, yellow cords). Your cable box may also be scrambling the signal so that you can't record. That may be why you can record by bypassing the cable box.

Turn off closed caption on input(component) on Sharp Aquos 42"

This is what just worked for me. If I can figure this out, anyone can :) We have comcast cable hddvr box, motorola 3416, and a new Samsung HD Plasma, but try this no matter what you have...
turn your cable box off, and THEN press menu on the box. A white screen popped up and this is where I had to scroll down to and disable the captions. I couldn't believe this worked since I thought the cables were enabled on my TV since my captions were covering my cable menus, but it was the cable. I hope this helps.

Motorola Cable Box DCt2244/1661/abcdeg

I called Comcast they said I could buy a box from ebay and it would be no problem. When I got it had no pic or sound, I called and they said if it was unplugged for 2 months or more it wouldn't have proper upgrades and is junk and said not to buy from ebay. Then why did they tell me I could on the first phone call? Thanks Comcast.....
