How to remove the case on a 1TB simpledrive - Seagate (ST3160026A-RK) 160 GB Hard Drive

My Seagate 1TB started doing the same thing before it died. My brother managed to get it working again long enough for me to move all of the files to a Toshiba 1TB solid state external drive. A couple of nice features to the Toshiba are that there is no power adapter (powered by the USB), there are no moving parts, and it is very compact. I slid mine into the space under the laptop stand. You might want to back up all of your data to another location just in case yours is getting ready to die.

The external hard disk must be formated in a file system that both the pc and the mac can use - best is FAT32. In your case the file system that the mac put on the disk is incompatible with the pc.
Make sure the files you want to move are still on the mac (if not copy them back from the disk), plug the disk in the pc and format it there in FAT32 (don't use the quick option), plug it in the mac and copy the files and unmount the disk before disconnecting it from the USB connector. Now you can put it in the pc - in there always use the Safely disconnect icon, don't just yank out the cable.

You can use any 12V/2A tip positive power supply at Radio Shack, Best Buy, etc

Are you trying to connect using USB or eSata. In either case try connecting the drive with the computer OFF. Boot, then look under MyComputer - Properties - Mangage - Disk Management to see if the drive is recognised.

It sounds like either the enclosure or the drive(s) inside have failed.

If the enclosure has failed and you don't have any crucial files on it that you don't already have elsewhere, contact simpletech for a warranty replacement.

If the enclosure has failed and you DO have important files on it, try having your local PC shop move the hard drive(s) into a new enclosure, if that works you're done, buy the new enclosure.

If the new enclosure fails, your drive(s) are damaged and you will need a pro to help get back your files. If this is the case, reply back with you location(Country, State and City) and I will pass along recommendations for your neck of the woods.

Change the orientation of the drive. i.e. if you had it standing vertical lay in flat. It worked for me. Hope this helps.

Not clear on what device you are saying here but you just go to the manufator's website or google a search for driver download needed to use with the make and model of your computer. If that can not be found email me at: [email protected] I know a Microsoft Manager very well and I will email this issue to him for you and he will in return email me either a Link for you to use or tell me exactly what is needed.
