I have a stainless steel red microwave by emerson. I have had it for almost a year and it has went bad. When you start it, it acts as if someone put some aluminum inside of it.
Same thing happened to mine. You need special "security torx" bit to take 2 of the screws that hold the cover on. 20 amp automotive fuse did the trick.
I just got one out of the garbage can It was the red one MW8997 It cost a $1.20 to fix, Take the four screws to the out side cover off in the back right corner there's a circuit board with a glass 20amp fuse check it out with a Ohm meter, it looked good but tested bad, Iv been using it for a month now
Quite often this is due to grease or food particles stuck to the inside of the oven or stuck on or behind the waveguide cover. The waveguide cover is usually about the size of a playing card and held in place by a plastic rivet. It can be fragile, and the metal edges behind it can be sharp, so be careful! The cover and the metal behind it should be cleaned with a mild, non-ammonia cleaner. If the cavity metal of the oven is chipped or charred, it will have to be sanded smmoth and clean. Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places liek Wal-Mart or Lowe's. If your waveguide cover is burned, it will need to be replaced.
