I don't know what brand you have, but if you look on the inside of the holders for the canopy, there should be a little plastic tab holding the hooked end of the canopy frame in place.  Use a small screwdriver to lift the tab up enough so you can slide the hook out.  Once you have it out, remove the canopy and wash away.

I couldn't find my manual to find out how to remove the canopy for washing so I went back to the store where I bought it (K Mart) and asked if I could look at the manual in one of the boxes. When I did I saw the illustration in the instructions that made it very easy to remove. I washed it and it turned out great.

Thanks - needed a flashlight and a small flat screwdriver and just made it happen!  I don't think it will ever be quite the same but at least I got it off and washed.  PS:  Now the arc frame rod popped out of the canopy so I will need to sew it or replace it anyways!!  And I didn't even put it in the dryer - oh, well!  Thanks for helping!

I can't remove the canopy on my graco snug ride car seat to wash it. I'm having trouble separating the two parts to get the material off.

The two plastic pieces clip together inside the fabric of the canopy, but if you push the fabric all the way to one side, you can expose the latch where the two pieces meet. The two pieces are identical, so you can push in on the tab on either piece to separate them. You have to push firmly, but they should separate easily.

Once you've washed the canopy, just thread one of the plastic pieces through the canopy and snap the two back together by sliding them together.

Hope that helps!

Dismantleing canopy

If this is for the Graco Snugride (I have the Windsor model from the Quattro Travel System), this will work:

1. Push the Graco canopy to one side, exposing the plastic support bars that hold the canopy in place.

2. The center of the support is where the canopy comes apart. Using both hands, pull the canopy support
bar apart (as if you were playing tug-of-war). It's best to grab the curved ends and pull HARD (and point it away to the side so that you don't hit your face).

3. Once the support bars are apart, remove the old Graco canopy and slip on the new/freshly washed canopy.

4. Secure the support bars by snapping them shut, and then slide the canopy into place.

I have a 3112doh Winnie the Pooh bassinet

I could not get the fabric off my canopy either. I found it slide nicely into my washer (top loader with agitator) even with metal insert. I washed on delicate and it came out great, with no damage to canopy.
