For the past week I have had a 1.5" solid black line runnning vertically down the center of the TV screen. Sometimes it will go away for 2-3 hours, but the frequency of which it is occurring keeps increasing. How can I get rid if this line? Is the TV shot? It is only 2 years old.
I have the exact same problem, I was told however that it was a ribbon wire. You can find wires for your television on ebay for approx. 35-40 bucks, or you can just take your tv to someone have them order it for 100 and fix it for 1000. However I do recomend that you have someone do it that knows what they're doing, because it is a very complicated process to change one of these said wires.
Read through all the posts. Very simple fix, but you have to have some mechanical inclinations or you can cause more problems than you started with. I was up to 5 of the black lines, but decided to attempt the soldering these guys did and fixed it all for the cost of a soldering iron!

Line faults & possible causes to LCD & Plasma screen are given with illustrations. You can get an idea about the fault to an extent. Faults to all LCD & Plasma screen are similar, irrespective of its brand and screen size.
faint chance here, the larger or thicker the line the worse it is. Usually this is a defect inside the panel where it cannot be gotten at---rarely this will be a plug or connection outside of the panel.
The screen unit or display panel costs more than the set did new.
NOT DEFECTIVE!!! There are 4 or 5 ribbon cables on the bottom or on one side, they control part of the plasma screen. Check the ribbon cablenear the black lines. Unplug the ribbon cable and look for black chipson the underside of it, I think they say 100 on them, you need toresolder both ends on each chip. Should fix the black line issue.
I wish I could post a solution, but I don't have one. I too have a Magnavox. About 6 months ago, once every 2 weeks or so, the screen would just go black- all but an inch or two on either side. Now, it seems like it's a weekly thing, sometimes every hour or two. As of tonight, it has happened twice in a matter of thirty minutes. It usually repairs itself if I turn it on and then off again but that's just not working anymore. If anyone has a solution, let me know.
These black lines on the plasma screens are very fixable. There is a dry solder joint on a circuit board at the bottom of the plasma that needs resoldered. There are 6 or 7 "ribbons" along the bottom of the screen that correspond to vertical sections of the display, so you just follow the black vertical line down to figure out which one is faulty. I just performed this fix successfully on my first attempt on a Gateway plasma, but it will work on most plasma's, specifically Hitachi, gateway, LG, Hyundai, & Akai. I think they may all have LG boards, my gateway did.
I can't really describe very well what to do, but I assure you it is fixable. If anyone is near nashville, I might be able to help you out. My email is [email protected]
