I know this response is way late to help you, but I was having the same problem. I could turn the zen on fine, but as soon as I tried to play music it would freeze and I couldn't turn it off. Using the reset button didn't help any since it would still freeze if I tried to play anything.

But I found reformatting the entire zen totally fixed it.

Connect your zen to your computer, go to windows explorer, click computer on the side bar, and your zen should be under "portable devices". Click on it. You should now be viewing the "storage media". Right click and select "Format...". This completely resets the zen, clearing any preferences or media you put on it and the freezing problem.

It was annoying putting all the pictures, videos, and itunes back onto my zen, but at least it works now. Since I've reformatted it, I have had no problems.

Hopefully this helps others who experience this problem.

I dont know but I read somewhere in Creatives manuals or online that they recommened not filling up the device completely with media. Don't ask me why, if they give it to you you should take it but I'm not creative lol

im not sure but i think you have to create the playlist first then transfer to mp3

For sure its repairable ! Will cost you money though. You will need to call customer support at creative to know where is the closest authorized retailer that can repair you're mp3 player. Thank you thank you thank you a billion times, you just saved my life (well, at least my zen's). Did as you said, my Zen Touch 20GB is rebuilding it's library right now. Oh, now it's done. Everything's still there, awesome. Thank you!

Why does technology make you work for what you already paid good money for? Have you tried going into Recovery Mode? You do this by holding down the Play/Pause button while triggering the Reset button. Once there, you have four options. Try selecting Disk Cleanup and then Reboot. You might need to re-Sync a few things but it's worth a shot. Good luck.
