You have the incorrect drivers installed for the CD/DVD drive. Ensure that the drive is compatible with Windows 7 and got to the manufacturers website for the drivers written for Windows 7
You will need to re-install the driver. Right click the device in device manager and select properties. Navigate to the driver section and uninstall all existing drivers. (It may *not* give you the option to do that, depending on how corrupted the driver is, but it should.)
Reboot the PC.
Upon reboot, Windows should find the new device and install generic drivers. It will probably ask you to reboot a second time.
CD/DVD drives usually dont need drivers loading, windows has built in drivers.
Try going into device manager and deleting the drive from there, windows will then re load the drivers.
If it still wont work, it may have failed
What windows is this?
Who is the maker of the laptop?
Turn the computer off, remove the DVD drive and restart.
look for the drive in device manager
Windows xp – Start button>run> type devmgmt.msc Vista/Windows 7 – start button> in the search box type devmgmt.msc
Remove or un-install the cd/dvd drive
turn off the computer
Put the drive back in
Restart the computer
Install your driver or allow the driver to install
If it continues to fail then either replace the drive or look in the component's properties, click the drivers tab and delete these drivers from windows system32 folder. You will need the windows installation disk to restore these drivers.

you need to right click on the device, from the view with the yellow triangle, and update the driver or roll back the driver. failing that , download driver max and it will find the driver for you.
go to control panel, system, hardware, device manager, locate the drive, right click update driver, if fails, try windows update, if that fails google search for make and model and include "driver download"
