Hi, sounds like you need to replace the motherboard. It maybe cheaper to buy another laptop. Go to Compaq website and inquire on their discussion forums. Check out the motherboard price on HP and ebay. Google is your friend! Cheers, Steve PS You could dismantle the unit and see if their is any visible damage, but motherboards tend to be difficult to repair.
First try from the Compaq Site or HP site www.compaq.com or www.hp.com . If you are unable to find the Drivers then download Driver Max software from www.drivermax.com , This software will automatically detects all the hardware present in your computer and gives links to the drivers suited for your hardware.
Sound Max is a driver download you get from the maker of the computer you have the integrated sound on. Go the manufacturers support page and look for downloads and drivers. Put in the model number of your computer and when the downloads page comes up look for the SoundMax audio driver for your operating system (Windows XP, Vista etc. ) Once downloaded to your computer, try to direct the download to your desktop, you will see the option when you hit download and save. From the desktop you can open and launch the file. The file will self install and probably want you to reboot after it is through installing. Thats it......
