For the information given, and assuming forr a 94 it has a bunch of miles, I would bet on a slipping clutch along with a pressure plate that is glazed over. I doubt the transfer case, that's just a chain drive mechanism with nothing much to slip in there. In 2 wheel drive the transfer case drives pretty much straight through and shouldn't add to the problem.
If the clutch has over 80K on it, replace and resurface the pressure plate at the same time.
Does the clutch pedal have about 1/4" of play before it begins to engage? If not adjust the clutch play 1st and see if that helps.
Let me know if you have a further symptoms to share.

This year of ranger had a few flaws, In one case, a break power booster was robbing the vacumm, you can test this by plugging it off and seeing the differance, but you will have limited brakes. This model year had a problem with a vacuum leak on the manifold. You can check these in many ways, but please don't use starting fluid. The rear of the manifold usually on the drivers side where it seals to the block.
Also, in 2 other cases a cracked head has gave me the same problem. It is caused from a loss of vacuum.

Check to make sure you are not low on ATF, otherwise you might need bands adjusted by transmission tech.

There are to many things that can cause this problem, best thing to is go get the ECM scanned for DTC codes at a transmission shop or Auto zone or Parts Source since they scan for free.
The ECM should have DTC code in it's memory on how the transmission is Performing and have the Transmission line tested for Fluid pressure.
Good luck and hope this helps. Oh and also ways check with more then on transmission shop if there tell you that you need a new Transmission,
It could be a simple as the transmission filter falling off causing the lost of transmission fluid pressure. Check the transmission fluid too.

I have the exact same problem with my 2000 Ford Taurus. Personally I think it's the O2 sensor because it feels as though it's getting choked out. Also, you might want to have your exhaust system checked there might be a hole or leaks. I know it's definitely not the transmission because I have mine diagnosed and nothing is wrong with it. But they did tell me that the clutch pack is likely to go out in this Ford model so you might want to try that route.
I REPLACED THE CATATILIC CONVERTER UNDER CAR IT RUNS JUST FINE NOW THANKS FOR YOUR TIME
sounds like the spark plug wire are shorting out to the cylinder head, fairly common in this engine. Replace the plug wires
