Restarting after removing the power is how the equipment is designed to operate because removing power temporarily clears the fault code. Not starting could be caused by a number of built in safety devices such as roll out switches or partially blocked flue pipe. I've seen them with bird's nest in it. This should be looked at by a trained professional.

SOURCE: furnace keeps shutting down

The only thing I would fuss with on a furnace is the optical sensor that checks to see if there is flame. It would be a metal tube sticking into the combustion chamber, with a lens inside, or a flat black plate near the igniter. The lens can get sooted, need to be cleaned off.
Otherwise, it's a service call to check the gas control coils.
Be real careful not to touch the igniter, it is super delicate.

Carrier 58STA/STX furnace false starts even when off or temperature set lower than current.

Is it possible the drain is plugged? The newer furnaces have a moisture drain and will shut down if they are blocked., shutting them down and restarting will reset fault, but will come right back if not fixed.

Having problem with lennox furnace Model ML193DF090P48C-02.Furnace has been working but now and getting worse furnace will kick on 20 seconds or so but nothing.Igniter does not come on.When it finally

Usually when your flame sensor gets dirty, the igniter and burner come on for approx.15 seconds, then shuts down. After 3 tries it will lock the furnace out. You have to shut the power off to the furnace then turn it back on to reset it. You need to turn all the power off to the furnace and remove the flame sensor, clean it with some very fine steel wool and put it back in. Be careful not to handle the Sensor (metal) part with your fingers. Turn the power on and set your thermostat so that it will call for Heat. That should fix, it if not you may need a new flame sensor.

Toshiba laptop satellite L645D-4040 keeps shutting down

does it shut down and then just start right back up? If it does then press and hold the power button and make sure it shuts down all the way. Then take the battery out and press and hold the power button after the battery is out for about 5 seconds. Then let it sit like 10 - 15 seconds. After that put your battery back in and turn it back on and see if this solved your problem. I think its in a loop to make it keep restarting. Let me know if this helped. Thanks, Herb Stacey

After furnace runs for a while and cycles off furnace will not fire back up unless I power off then turn back on

You should have the unit serviced. Each time you shut off power you are resetting
the logic board. The reason it is shutting off is related to a safety device which is
connected to the control board, whether it is a flame sensor or draft inducer sensor
or limit they will all cause the furnace to shut down for safety.

I have a york furnace trhat when it initially ignites the flame comes on for a few seconds then shuts down. I can manually shut it off completely then restart it and most times it will come back on. I cant...

Make sure the flame sensor is clean near the burners, The flame sensor is a metal rod that is on the opposite side of the ignitor. To clean the flame sensor you will need some steel wool, turn off power to the furnace and remove the flame sensor and clean it with the steel wool. I will post a pic of a flame sensor.robhvac47_6.jpg
