Black screen green dots

My computer will start, but won't show anything past "Microsoft corporation" loading screen. It just goes completely blank/black and nothing happens. Can not get to the desktop. Safe modes, last known good config, system restore all of them will not work. Any ideas?

What was the last thing you did on your computer before this happened?
Did you change any system settings in the BIOS?
Did you add new software? or update any software or drivers?
Did you add any new hardware?
Is your system BIOS infected with a virus?
Because it appears that your PC is hanging up during the Power-On-Self-Test [POST]

Here's what happens; when the power is turned on, the computer BIOS [Basic Input/Output System] runs a POST (Power-On Self-Test). It is a diagnostic testing sequence that the computer runs to determine if the hardware [like the mouse, keyboard, hard drive, etc.] is working properly.

If the necessary hardware is detected and found to be operating properly, the computer begins to boot; If the hardware is not detected or is not operating properly, the BIOS issues an error message.

The error message may be a text on the display screen and/or a series of coded beeps, depending on the nature of the problem.

The series or pattern of beeps may vary...they may be in a number of long or short beeps or a mixture of long and short beeps, or even one long continuous beep, depending on what type of BIOS is installed.

Since POST runs before the computer's video card is activated or the integrated graphic chip on the main board, it may not be possible to progress to the display screen.

So if an error is detected during the POST it will halt the boot process because the hardware is essential for the computer's functions.

How many beeps do you hear during the initial POST?

You may have a burned out video chip/card; or corrupt drivers; or even an IRQ [Interrupt Request] conflict.

SOURCE: Black screen comes up "windows

You should opt Safe Mode:

  • On the black screen just navigate throug up and down arrow keys.
  • Goto Safe Mode and press enter.
  • It will boot your system in safe mode.
If the boot is success full:
  • try to remember any software or hardware you recently installed/change. Then remove/uninstall that software/hardware. Also remove some device driver like Video/Audio driver and make re-start. and try to normal boot. If success then install your audio/video.
If no success then I think its time to re-install your windows.
Please post your feed-back.

SOURCE: Can't factory restore dell inspiron 531 (windows xp).

You might want to try going into setup and setting your boot drive options to DVD drive as your 1st, HD as 2nd and Floppy as 3rd. Put your windows disk in the DVD before boot and run the program from DVD.

T61 won't go past the Microsoft loading screen

Press F8 during boot, and load Safe Mode. A program may be preventing a proper startup.

Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig > Startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running.

This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when you initiate.

What does it mean by dead cells?

I assume this is related to your LCD monitor.
I think you mean dead pixels. The LCD monitor has tiny pixel elements, one for each red, blue, green color and each one of these colored pixels are turnes on by a transistor. When a transistor fails then the colored pixel it controls does not light up. This is a dead pixel and it shows up as a tiny black dot.
If the screen displays a blue screen, a dead blue pixel will appear as a tiny black dot in the blue screen.
You normally would not notice a few dead pixels unless they are grouped together.
