Adjust the contrast. Turn the calculator on. Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the down-arrow key to lighten the screen. If you go too far, press and release the 2ND key, then press and hold the up-arrow key.

That means that you know your calc crashed. This can be caused by taking out the batteries durring running time, happened just randomly. Well nothing to fear just press clear and it should go away but if it stays on that screen you have problems and is best to try some of these methods. Take out all the bateries and press and hold the on button for 30 seconds. Put the batteries back in and it should have reset. Warning you should archive everything incase this happens. To archive go to 2nd mem and hit enter to put a astrick next to the app (meaning archived)

TI 83 plus calculator has dim screen.

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

Black Screen

Not for sure but if it has a reset button on the back you probably need to press and hold it for about 10 seconds and see what happens.

Screen obstruction TI-83 Plus Graphing Calculator

Hello,
The liquid crystal is damaged. I suppose the screen can be replaced. Check with Texas Instruments resellers (usually academic bookstores): they may be able to tell you where you can have the calculator serviced.

OK for batteries to be dead
But calculator must be alive.

Hope it helps.
