Question about Sunpak Cameras

1 Answer

My sunpak digiflash 3000 won't fire, or do anything when pushing the test button, it has new batteries and the flash ready light is on but it still won't fire. I have noticed that the red light on the very front of the flash does not light up anymore I've only used it once for a wedding

My sunpak digiflash 3000 will not flash at all even when pushing test button. It warms up, ready light comes on but no flash.

SOURCE: no 'green' light on bacl of my 'old' Vivitar 285

Then I'd say it's a reasonably sure thing that the green light is just burned out, The lights are supposed to be off at first, then red when there's a partial charge, then green when there's a full charge, then flashing between red and green when the "battery saver" kicks in. If you're seeing off, then red, then off, then flashing red, then that means everything in the charging circuit is working perfectly, there's just no green light.

How do I use this flash as a slave?

You need to set the flash to slave and the same channel as the master. If the flash doesn't have this function it may be able to be fired optically. Set the master flash to low power and set the off camera flash to optical.

Digiflash 3000 will not flash even when testing. I hear it warm up, ready light comes on, but nothing.

These are not that expensive to buy, the problem is that the parts and service are more than a new one. In any case they use high voltage and you have to use special tools to measure and service the flash circuit. IT might be the flash tube is bad, the trigger circuit is bad, the capacitor is bad etc.

Sunpak digiflash 3000 manual

I wonder if a little sand got into the threads...

If you simply cannot get it to loosen, have someone try CAREFULLY with a pair of ChanNelLock (brand name) or other brand "water pump pliers", Dorothy. Ordinary slipjoint pliers (the kind that look like two little opposing thumbs) are generally useless for things like this, but parallel-jaw pliers ("water pump pliers") might be able to get in to that little plastic thumbwheel to loosen it far enough to remove.

Really - GENTLY is the keyword here. If they grip the thumbwheel too tightly, it'll distort the plastic and the thumbwheel will never feel the same again.

Once the flash is off the camera, use some aerosol cleaner spray to clean the threads while you work that thumbwheel back & forth. Don't use anything with any lubricant in it, but Freon or plain-air "spray" works well. Whatever you use, it MUST evaporate COMPLETELY and not attack plastic.

My Sunpak Auto 383 Super will not fire on or off the camera. When I turn on the switch, the ready/test light lights immediately. I suspect the bulb is burned out, so I wonder if that can be replaced.

There can be one of many parts which is gone :
Flash tube,capacitor,trigger cap.or triggering switch.
Warning as it has 330 volts even when battery is removed do not open if you are not aware of the risks.
Sunpak 383 contains no bulbs inside.

The flash is not very brightthe test button fire the flash just fine..but when i fire it when i take a picture the light is very weak

Are your pictures properly exposed?
Does this flash have power settings on the back? If so, move it back to full power.
If your pictures are properly exposed then its doing what its supposed to.
If no power setting on the back, check what ASA you have it set for. 800 or 1000 speed film requires much less light than 200 speed film. Adjust ASA based on your film.

Olympus fl-50 powers up but flash does not fire / work

I have the same problem, I have looked every where even on the Olympus site and have no luck finding anything, I paid £280 pounds for this unit and have hardly used it. Took it to a few repair center's & they reckon £200 pounds to repair it (how can that be) I only want it repaired and am sure it is the bulb I don't want to buy a new one this could happen again at great cost to me. I have to say I am not very happy with Olympus at all, bad service, & lack of help with this problem.

Sunpak Auto zoom 3000 thyristor

You can use the Sunpak on a bracket with a "slave trigger" and fire the slave with the Nikon's pop-up flash. I do the same with a SunPak 3600 Auto Zoom. Just remember not to have the red-eye feature operating. Those little slave triggers are only a couple of dollars and I already had few brackets.
