I've had this Sony KF50XBR800 rear projection TV since June 03, and it has performed flawlessly until now. All of a sudden I am getting a blue, and sometimes yellow tint on the entire screen. It looks almost like the picture has been posterized, if that makes any sense. Still able to watch and see what's going on, and then sometimes all of a sudden it will flash a few times and clear up and be fine. Then, the next time it gets turned on it appears again. Kind of like it gets better the longer it is on.
Could this be a problem with the dreaded optical block I have been reading so much about?

Re: Sony KF50XBR800 Blue Shading
More than likely it is the optical assy. there are light filters inside and after using the tv for a period of time the glue on these filters fail causing the filter to fall. which is what you are seeing. sony has extnded the warranty on most of their optical assy to satisfy the consumers.

Difficult to address the black screen problem without diagnosis but the blue discoloration is definitely a bad optical engine. Sony extended warranty coverage for this until June of 2010 but no more. Cost of the part is around $900 so I wouldn't pursue any further repair.
juzz i suggest that u would unplug the unit for a couple of minute the plug it back in on a wall outlet.use the tv/video button to change the video input if that button didnt work it may require service....jake
