The print quality produced by my Epson Aculaser C1100, which has been wonderful for the past 18 months or so, is now appalling. The black ink just wipes off the page, often coming out of the printer already smudged - or wipes off when touched, even days later. The LCD display says that the Photoconductor Unit is worn. Is it the worn photoconductor unit causing this printing problem? New photoconducting units cost a fortune to replace and I don't want to spend that money and find out that this problem is caused by something else. I am toying with ditching the thing and buying a new printer. Your help would be appreciated.
No this is not a photoconductor problem. your fuser unit is faulty, it is not getting up to the correct temprature to "fuse" the toner to the paper hence why you are able towipe the toner from the page. Hope this helps Cops [email protected]

Dear Cops
Thanks for your diagnosis. So is this something that can be fixed or should I give up on the printer and buy new?
Thanks
Catherine
Many thanks for this. Given that the Fuser is £127 and the photoconductor is a similar price, I might as well buy a new printer. Doesn't seem very environmentally friendly but never mind.
Thanks again
Catherine
