My ipod touch is locked and i forgot the passcode and its disabled and i cant link it up to itunes unless i unlock it which i cant

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Have you tried resetting it? I have several options for you to try. With out the password though the only way to unlock it is with restoring in iTunes. Im not sure that there is a whole lot you can do without that option. But please do try these to get the iPod to connect. You will need to restore it for sure. (If you can)

    ipod Touch
    To reset
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

Disconnect the USB cable from the iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.

Power off the device (Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the the iPhone or iPod touch to turn off.

Press and hold the Home button while reconnecting the USB cable to iPhone. When you reconnect the USB to iPhone, the device should then power on.

Continue holding the Home button while iPod starts up. While starting up, you will see the Apple logo.
When you see "Connect to iTunes" on the screen, you can release the Home button and iTunes will display the recovery mode message: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes.

If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, then disconnect the USB cable from iPod and repeat steps 3-6.

Because you must restore the iPod touch, iTunes will not recover data from the device, but if it was previously synced on the same computer and the same user account, it should restore a backup (if available)

Updating and Restoring iPod touch Software You can use iTunes to update or reinstall iPod touch software, restore default settings, and delete all data on iPod touch. ââ If you update, the iPod touch software is updated but your downloaded applications, settings, and songs are not affected. ââ If you restore, the latest version of iPod touch software is reinstalled, default settings are restored, and data stored on iPod touch is deleted, including downloaded applications, songs, videos, contacts, photos, calendar information, and any other data. In iTunes 7.7, you can also restore from a backup without deleting data stored on iPod touch. Note: Deleted data is no longer accessible via the iPod touch user interface, but is not permanently erased from your iPod touch until it is overwritten by new data. For information about permanently erasing all content and settings, see “Resetting iPod touch” on page 94. Update or restore iPod touch: 1 Make sure you have an Internet connection and have installed the latest version of iTunes from www.apple.com/itunes. 2 Connect iPod touch to your computer. 3 Select iPod touch in the iTunes sidebar and click the Summary tab. 4 Click “Check for Update.” iTunes tells you if there’s a newer version of the iPod touch software available. 5 Click Update to install the latest version of the software. Or click Restore to restore. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the restore process.

IPod is disabled, and I forgot my password / passcode.

The screen lock is available on the iPod Touch, as well as recent models of the iPod, and iPod nano, allowing you to set a 4-digit passcode to lock the screen. This is to prevent others from using your iPod, but it is not an impregnable security device. If you forget the passcode, you can quickly and simply unlock the iPod by connecting it to the computer you normally use to sync your iPod with iTunes.

Itouch disabled

When your iPod Touch displays a message telling you to connect it to iTunes, it may be in recovery mode, or have been disconnected in the middle of an update.
To get rid of the screen, you must reset your device. If in passcode mode, an iPod Touch must be manually unlocked or fully restored to get back to the home screen.Forcing a Reboot
When your iPod Touch is stuck on a screen that is instructing you to connect with iTunes, a normal restart will probably not work, as the hard drive has become frozen.
You can still, however force the iPod to reboot using a process called resetting.
To reset an iPod Touch, hold down the "Sleep/Wake" and "Home" buttons at the same time until an Apple logo appears, indicating that the device is rebooting.
When an iPod Touch reboots, it always goes back to the lock screen. Passcode mode will still be enabled.

Unlocking With the Passcode
If you know the passcode for your iPod Touch, slide the "Slide to Unlock" arrow and then enter your code on the next screen.
Upon entering your password, you will be directed to the device's home screen. If you enter the wrong password too many times, it will become disabled temporarily.
The iPod Touch can also be set to erase all content after 10 incorrect passcode attempts if you previously enabled this feature, don't attempt more than 9 entries.

Unlocking Without Passcode If you have forgotten the passcode to your iPod Touch, the only way to unlock the device is by restoring it.
Restoring an iPod Touch returns it to the factory settings, meaning that any settings, applications or music you added to the iPod are removed.
Once the device is restored, you can re-add your downloads and other information using the backup copies in your computer iTunes program.
The passcode setting will be disabled unless you manually enable it again.

Consideration

If you don't have a backup of your music and applications in iTunes on your computer, you can also download another copy from the iTunes Store or App Store on your device after a restore.
Any photos that are deleted during restore, however, will be lost forever if a backup does not exist.
Always back up your information via sync on a regular basis to avoid this problem.

Forgot my ipod pascode lock

If you own an iPod touch, you have the option to set a password, which Apple calls a passcode, to protect your data. Anyone who attempts to access your iPod, after unlocking it or turning it on, will require the passcode to do so. However, if you forget your passcode or incorrectly enter it, you will eventually see an alert that your iPod touch has become disabled. To unlock your iPod touch after forgetting the passcode, and still access your content, you must connect it to the computer with which you last synced it.

Connect your iPod touch to the computer with which you last synced the music player. Launch iTunes if it does not automatically open. Select your iPod touch under the devices list, and click the "Summary" tab in iTunes. Click "Restore" and, when prompted, click the "Back Up" button to save a back up of your iPod touch in iTunes. Click "Restore" when prompted, after the back up saves. After restoring, click "Ok." Choose the most recent back up from the drop down list on the "Set Up Your iPod" screen. Click the "Continue" button to restore your iPod touch.

How to unlock an ipod

Apple's iPod touch, a portable music player with a touchscreen display, is powered by a built-in rechargeable battery that provides up to 40 hours of audio playback and up to seven hours of video playback when fully charged. To conserve power, the iPod touch locks by default after a minute of not being used. If you want to use your iPod touch after it locks, you will need to unlock it. You might need to type a password, depending on how you've configured the device.

Press the "Home" button, located below the screen, or press the silver "Sleep/Wake" switch located at the top of the device. Swipe a finger across the "Slide to Unlock" slider on the screen. The iPod touch unlocks. Press the "Home" button or press the "Sleep/Wake" switch when you have enabled passcode protection on your iPod, then swipe a finger across the "Slide to Unlock" slider on the screen. The "Enter a Passcode" message appears. Type in your passcode, and then tap "OK." The iPod touch unlocks. Forgot Your Password b> Connect the iPod Touch to your computer using the USB cable. Wait for iTunes to open and sync with your computer. Eject your iPod Touch from the computer by clicking the "Eject" icon beside the iPod's entry in the "Devices" section of iTunes. Disconnect your iPod Touch from the USB cable. Your iPod Touch will be turned on and will be unlocked. Tap the "General" menu on the iPod Touch. Tap "Passcode Lock," and then tap either "Turn Passcode Off" or "Change Passcode." If you tap "Change Passcode," you can then enter a new passcode.
