Rows of black ink blotches on my printouts

For the past 3 weeks, there have been intermittent strips of black smudged blotches on my printout. These are not resolved by head cleaning ( nozzle check is fine) or by head alignment. There's no pattern to the rows of blots except tending to occur about 5cm from edge of pages whether A4 or A3 printing (this is not consistent though and can occur in various positions on same page)and occuring in intermittent strips. Please help.

Found bits of dust adherent to printer heads, took awhile to clean out with fine forceps, but seems fine now

My hp3600n makes a grinding sound at start and the printout always has gray verticle smudges on it

If you run the PQ troubleshooting pages you will likely find that your black cartridge is faulty. Sounds like the drum is dragging.

I have black smudges on my printouts. I using

This may be the cartridge itself, take the black ink cartridge out and check the head on it (the part that points in to the printer, usually down) and see if it is dirty or has ink smudges on it.

Smudged printing

Normal 0 Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

Smudging and overlapping

By smudging do you mean the print is actually rubbing off?
I am going to assume you are seeing some reprint on all printed pages.
If I am understanding correctly, what you have is a bad fuser, most likely a bad heat roller.
That is the heated area just before the pages exit the machine.
The coating on those rolls wear out with time, or may even debond from the aluminum. The ink does not then properly melt into the paper, sticks to the roller and progressively becomes worse.
Replacement of the fuser should resolve that issue. That's simply a normal wear item.
