Our LG 50" plasma tv screen went black after a popping noise but still had sound, after great diliberations decided to take the back off and have a peek!
We unplugged the tv and tested the fuses (there were three we could see) one had blown, the one on the left as you look at the back of the tv it also has one above it. We wrote the code/seriel number down and took the fuse to the electrical wholesalers Maplin and bought a pack of 10 fuses for £1.29 replaced the fuse in the tv and everything now fine!!!!!!
Hope this might be of use to anyone whose lost the picture after a loud popping/snacking noise but still has sound.

Unfortunately, that board is the inverter board. And for this model the inverter board is only supplied with the the PDP panel. The panel is quite expensive, here's a link if needed:

Hi , I recently had the same problem which I was determined to fix . So I did a few weeks of research to find that it was the Y SUS board which burns out. I'm sure you realized that the TV gets hot. Personally I think this is why. circuit boards don't like heat and I've learned that the cooling fans are a joke. I replaced the board and got my picture back. I proved the fan theory because after the screen started to act up. I placed a cooling fan near the vent holes on top and the problem cleared right up,It also helps if you lower the brightness which helps out on the heat situation.I will soon be adding a fan with a temp. sensor. This shoud help if your screen has lines when you initially turn the cool TV on.then I have Some other costless solutions. Hope this helped these are great TV's and like our cars we maintain them not throw them away..................................Mr Wiseman

No picture, no sound

Diagnose the Problem

The first step in diagnosis is to check the display for any cracks on the screen. If the screen appears cracked, then the repairs may require plasma screen replacement. A cracked screen means that the gases inside have probably escaped. There is no way to refill the gases and the whole display will have to be changed. In this case, an authorized service may be able to provide more details. If the problem persists, then a gas leak is perhaps not the cause of a loss in display. Lamp burnout could be one reason behind a blank screen.

Check the Fuse

Most of the time, the plasma TV fuse is at fault for no picture on an LG Plasma screen. In such a case, changing the fuse should make an LG Plasma TV functional.
  1. Unplug the TV and wait for 10 minutes for the capacitors to discharge.
  2. Take a Digital Multimeter and set it to the 0-200 ohm range.
  3. Touch the red and black probes to each other and check the readings. The multimeter reading should be in the range of 0-2 ohms.
  4. Now touch the red and black probes to each end of the fuse. If the multi-meter reads '1' or 'OL', then the fuse has blown and needs replacement. If the multi-meter shows the same reading as before, the problem lies elsewhere. Some cases may require the motherboard to be completely replaced.

Fix the Problem

If an LG plasma TV has no picture and no sound, then either the Y-sustain or the Z-sustain are at fault. Follow these steps to determine and fix the problem.
  1. Unplug the TV and wait for 10 minutes for all the capacitors to discharge. Then open the back panel of the TV.
  2. Unplug the Z-sustain from the TV and plug the TV into the power supply. If there is sound, then the Z-sustain is faulty and will need changing.
  3. If there is no sound, follow the same procedure and unplug the Y-sustain. Check for sound. If there is a sound, then the Y-sustain is faulty.
  4. If the Y-sustain is faulty, a user may have to check the Y-buffer. He will have to follow the same procedure and unplug the Y-buffer this time. If there is some picture with sound, it means that the Y-buffer is faulty.
Keep in mind that a plasma TV runs on very high voltage. The voltage on some connectors exceeds 400V (in excess of 200 joules of energy). This high voltage can be very dangerous. That why it's important for users to always make sure the capacitors have discharged before performing any type of diagnosis or fixes on an LG Plasma or any other television set.

Problem with LG 42 inch plasma

If you notice these dots when you use Video or HDMI inputs, then you need to do something to get rid of them.

Open the back cover, try to reduce the Vs voltage 5-10V below its spec value. Vs is from Power Supply Board and its spec value was printed on the back of PDP panel. If your tv is under warranty, just drop it to the warranty depot shop.

Hi all..i had the same problem with my 42 inch LG

sound was the fuse on the board blowing.not that hard to replace but be careful with the connector ribbons! got my replacement from

calling someone out to fix it.
P.S i tried just to replace the fuse on the board T2AH 250v but it blew,i think the fact the fuse blows means the board is faulty..but you could try.

The TV should be under warranty. Send back. Sounds like the panel is faulty (half the value of the set).
