Question about JVC AV-48WP74 48" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

JVC AV-48WP74 I have a JVC AV-48WP74 48" Widescreen HD-Ready Projection TV. When I turn it on all it does is thump like a heart beat. Any ideas on the problem? Also what should i expect to pay for to have someone look at it?

Yes EXACTLY the same problem. The blue light on the front blinks blue/off. I have to unplug the set and plug it back in to get it to do anything. Then it simply thumps like a heartbeat. This happens for a few seconds and 'click' it shuts down. There is never any video or sound other than the thumping.

Havent had time to check these things out but here is some raw research I have done

No. The CRT driver ICs are prone to shorting and cause this symptom (I just had one with those very symptoms and the green CRT driver IC was shorted). Disconnecting the CRT board does not clear the short on the board. Often then is a small burn mark on the CRT board under the affected IC (but not always). The IC should be a TDA6111Q. Be sure to note the proper position
of the IC as it should face with the letters TOWARD the heat sink!!!!

Larry, Check the CRT driver ICs on each of the CRT boards.

Hi Guys, I don`t see many JVC`s and don`t have the print for this AV48WP30, went out this morning and as customer claimed on phone when you plug set in and turn on it makes a loud thump thump in both speakers 20-30 times then relay clicks, the thump stops, and blue idiot light on front goes dim/bright, dim/bright, have to unplug set to start this same scenario over again. Never develops HV or audio, Will order the service manual today, but would like to know if anyone has seen this before (should say "heard" this before)
I would disconnect each crt board and hv lead one at a time and try. Have seen several bad tubes on that model. The only other problem I have seen on that set is bad convergence amps, however that doesn't cause shutdown.

Above from JVC Web site, also I have seen shorted video drive IC's on the crt boards short and cause this symptom. Try unplugging the 200 volt source to the crt boards and see it the set powers up and stays on. There is a B+ relay which supplies 130 Volts to the horizontal output circuit. Is this relay energizing? I takes about five seconds after the power is turned on for it to energize. If a short is detected on the 130 volt line the blue power lamp on the front will do what you describe and the relay will pulse on and off. (David)

Symptom:
Non-functional Digital Input
Solution:
1. Power off the unit
2. Disconnect the digital input if it is connected
3. Remove the rear cover
4. On the digital input module, using a shorting pin (PC type) or a
jumper, short Pin 1 and Pin 2 of the
SB connector
5. Power on the unit
6. Unplug the unit and remove the shorting pin or the jumper
7. Re-attach the unit’s rear cover
8. Power on the unit, and input the digital source

I have a JVC AV-65WP74, I went to bed watching the TV then turned it off for the night but the next day when I turned it back on the blue light came on on the TV but no picture, the TV makes a fast...

The clicking you hear is probably caused by a relay that controls the incoming AC to the main power supply. This is a protective reaction to a problem in the power supply itself or an overload due to a failure downstream from the supply. This is not a likely DIY repair. You will probably need a technician to determine which of these two likely problems it is.

Hello, I have no sound on JVC AV-56P575. When

I have had the same problem. It usually happens when changing from a non-HD channel to a HD. It has been doing since the purchase of the TV. Instead of going through the headache of a service call, I have been turning it off, wait a couple of minutes and then turn it back on. The sound returns and the issue will not repeat itself for at least a couple of weeks.

JVC AV-65WP74 clicks and sounds like a heart beating and then turns off. what is the problem, how much will a repair cost?

it could either be convergence ics shorted or deflection board trouble
as to cost convergence 300 to 350
if its power supply 300.400
it would have to be isolated down to the exact location causing the problem
but usualy a great set to keep around

Our JVC 56in rear projection tv cut off and when we tried to turn it back on is makes a thumping sound and the blue light on the front blinks and the thumping sound gets louder... Help??

The problem is one of the video drive IC's on the crt boards is bad. These IC's are located behind the front speaker grille. The board connected to the bottom of the crt's will have these ic's on them. They will be screwed into a metal "heatsink" The part number is TDA6111Q
