Taiwan Version - cannot change language settings to English

Bought Forerunner 405 in Taiwan. The only language installed is traditional Chinese. Bad luck - I am German :-) living in China. Does anybody know how I could change the firmware from traditional Chinese to English or German? A firmware update from the German website did not solve the problem, message was that I do have the latest firmware version installed.
Hope u can help me to keep me away from learning traditional Chinese

Sometimes it's the simple things we overlook. After making the changes, did you click "Apply" or "Okay" before restarting? Try again but make sure you click Apply.

I've charged up my Garmin forerunner 405 for the first time and it's stuck on the language setting page. I can scroll through the languages, but can't press enter to select the Language ("English")??...

It looks like you have so called cold push button. In fact there is nothing to do with push button as the fault is in contact or in microchip, but that's a long story to explain. You probably would be able to fix it with my help, but as I understand, your Garmin is brand new and still under the warranty, so, there is no reason to open it yourself and loose the warranty. My advise is to go back to the retailer who sold it and ask to change it for the new one.

Rate me, please.

How can I change the language on my laptop?

If you just want to change the keyboard and general language settings, you simply go to the Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Regional/Language settings and change your language.

If your friend installed the Turkish version of WinXP (i.E. all the alert boxes are in Turkish) and you want to modify it to another language - that's a totally different and more complex situation.

In order to change the whole system language you can install a newer service pack in a different Language or uninstall the last installed Service Pack and after changing the registry settings below Install it again.
!!!Make always a backup of your Registry first !

You have XP SP2 in Turkish and want to change your systmes language to English, you will have to download SP3 in English (link).
(You can change the language here to another one before the download.)
Then you will have to change some registry keys. (Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet001ControlNlsLanguage Registry Key), and change the value for “Default” and “InstallLanguage” from 041F (Turkish) to 0409 (English).
Reboot and you'll be able to install SP3 in English.
If no problems occur, you will have the whole system language changed.
Here is the List of numbers that represents each language in the registry:
* 0436 = "af;Afrikaans"
* 041C = "sq;Albanian"
* 0001 = "ar;Arabic"

I can't chang the lagguange as i dont understand russian

If you bought the laptop in russia it is probably running a russian version of windows. You can get an english version of windows and reinstall ms office if you like or you can reboot the laptop and when it comes to language settings choose english version of windows. Unless you can read russian or know someone who does it will be difficult to change it. But ms office should give you a language option when you install it. Try uninstalling it then reinstall it and make sure you read each and every page before you click on next I to had this same problem with ms office and when I uninstalled and reinstalled I found I had somehow missed the option for language in my windows version only mine was chinese instead of english. Once changed it was all in english
