Where does the detergent go?

I feel silly asking this question. Where does the soap go into the machine? We just bought a house that came with this washer/dryer combo. It doesn't include the manual and we've not used a front load washer before. Where on earth do we insert the detergent? We've been putting it in the fabric softener dispenser, but that doesn't always seem to drain. I don't think we are washing our clothes properly. Where does the detergent need to be placed??? Thank you immensely. As I said, I feel silly asking this.

SOURCE: Fabric Softener Won't Dispense

The fabric softener dispenser is notorious for clogging. Liquid fabric softener is essentially a liquid form of wax. After a period of time it begins to gunk up the inside of the fabric softener dispenser. If you remove the dispenser drawer and look into the cavity, there should be a series of holes in the upper part of the compartment where water sprays into all the dispenser trays. These holes get gunked up and clogged and water will not dispense properly. As a result, the washer goes through a complete cycle, but the dispenser stays full. If this is the case, you can take some cotton swabs and/or toothpicks and clean these holes real good. It may be a bit meticulous, but it should take care of the problem. Post back and let me know if this helps.

SOURCE: MAH8700AWW - No Fabric Softener

Not sure if you've ever resolved this issue, but I'm dealing with it myself. I have come across this service manual that gives a very detailed illustration of the systems, how it works and how to test it.
Focus on pages 15 thru 25. Hope this helps you.

I do not know what soaps i can use for a prjent

Emaily,

I am guessing you are asking what kind of detergent to use in your GE dishwasher. Well, you need to buy Dishwasher detergent. You can NOT use the kind of dish soap you use to wash dishes with in the sink. If you do, you will have a huge mess on your hands to clean up. It will make too much suds, and it will leak out of your machine. Cascade makes a nice dishwashing "pod" that you just set in the detergent tray, and close it up. I like to use the pods that have both detergent, and rinse aid in them. You can also buy dishwashing detergent in powder form that you just pour into the detergent tray.

Silly question - where do you add the detergent?

Often you will find the detergent dispenser very close to the dispenser for the softener. Mine is a separate container within the same "pullout" drawer that holds fabric softener. If you still are not sure, then find the model number of your washer and google it with the term, "user manual". Most are available online as a PDF

Needs to be cleaned, I want to save money ( now with the recession) can I hand was in cold water and hang to dry?

Hi,
Is the unit you have a top load or front load? You can use dishwashing detergent (dishwasher soap not counter soap) with hot water and allow the unit to completely wash a normal cycle. This will clean out the washer tub and internals without damage and its cheap.
Give it a try, it works very well. I clean my out once a month this way. If you feel like your wasting water, add house cleaning towels or car washing towels to that load.
Good Luck

the best way to use your dishwasher is the way it was designed.
if your unit has a compartment for jet dry or rinse agent then you should add and fill that compartment with rinse aid. try not to buy soap with any extra like soap with jet dry or shine plus . because when you fdo that sometimes customer think that they dont need rinse agent . big mistake. rinse agent is deposited at a certain time in the cycle. diod you know that is you use lets say jet dry and a soap with shine plus or rinse aid in soap the machine can over suds? as a tech trust me i have seen it.let me know if i was helpful. drop a 4thumbs up post

My front loading fridgidaire washer has a light on that reads EFO, What does that mean? Where can I get an owners manual. This was in the house when we bought it.

Alright, the problem you are having is without a doubt one of two things.
Too much soap will trigger this fault code. That is also going along with a "drain time too long" code. You have a general code. Not specific to one thing. Too much suds is causing the machine to take too long too drain. That is the reason for the irregular code.
Run the machine through a quick cycle or normal wash and use NO soap. You might have to do this twice. This will clear out the excess soap in the machine. If you have recently changed the soap you are using this could be the reason for the excess. Some detergents are alot more efficient that others.
This will take care of the problem you are having. Just be careful of the amount of detergent you are using. Once you get the machine cleared out you will be back to normal operation.
If this doesn't fix your problem. Then your drain pump is clogged. The only thing you can do about this is remove the back panel of the machine to access the pump. Remove the hoses off your pump. Check for obstructions.

Be sure you are using only HE detergent in the machine to reduce the amount of suds.

Bearings failure in these machines is mainly caused by over soap use and use of non HE soap.

Ryobi 3000 psi pressure washer detergent injector

Most detergent injectors work by the venturi system. That is that the detergent is drawn into the stream by the forward flow of the water thru a very narrow port after the water passes thru the pump. This system works best when the pressure at the tip of the wand is low. Trying using a very large tip to draw in and apply the detergent, then remove injector and rinse with high pressure. Not good for the pump but to apply soap reliably under high pressure the soap needs to be injected through the intake of the pump. enjoy

Soap dispenser will not open in cycle

Hi Dookie1984

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is about: The small door that houses the dishwashing detergent (grain or gel) will not open during the dishwashing cycle. The detergent gets caked in that housing. This has happened about 10 times now in a row.

If it is still under warrenty it's time to make the call. If not then it may be time to consider whether it's more cost effective to repair or replace. Unfortunatly you won't be able to fix this and sometimes even the repairman can't. You can always utilize our Repair Directory if you decide to go in that direction.
