Marantz CDR420 After recognizing a new blank CD, when I press record, I keep getting the message " No SPDIF lock" and I can't get a response when I press the play button.

  • Anonymous Dec 12, 2007

I have the same problem with the "no spdif lock" on this Marantz CDR420. How do I fix this problem?

The previous post didn't help me.

    Thanks......

Simply switch the analog to digital button on the front to analog, turn off the machine and turn it back on.

But then I won't have digital recordings, right? What is the point of that? Why doesn't it work to begin with?

S/PDIF specifies a Data Link Layer protocol and choice of Physical Layer specifications for carrying digital audio signals between devices and stereo components. Maybe you have to define it first.

Won't play CD's and won't record. The error "No SPIDF" won't clear. Remedy: Format the HD and this will resolve the symptom. See page 52 of the owners manual. Be advised that your audio stored on the HD will be lost. But, at least you're back in business. Live long and prosper!
Visit: CamcorderFixers.com for economical electronic repairs by a master technician......ME!!!
p.s., the official Marantz site for the USA will link you to downloads to view this owners manual.

Can i transfer information from the recorder to my computer? marantz model cdr420.

Depends on your PC and its audio capabilities.

It has analog line I/O, and SPDIF digital I/O, and USB 2.0, allowing you to connect the CDR420 to virtually anything in the world.

Marantz cdr420 recorded media stored on harddrive.played back all fine unplugged now it says no valid files when i try to burn the disc but the drive reads full.

If you are attempting to burn mp3 files as an audio CD, then that's the problem. You cannot burn audio CDs from MP3 files. You have to burn MP3 files as a data CD and not as an audio CD. See excerpt taken from page 33 in the CDR420 user guide. "Prepares CDs that can be played on standard CD players. Compact Disc Digital Audio (CDDA) uses uncompressed PCM, .wav files. The CDR420 does not convert MP3 files to PCM so MP3 files are ignored if you choose AUDIO as the CD TYPE"

I can not get my CD recorder to record

You should use consumer cd's that are rather expensive. You probably tried to record a recordable cd-rom (a cheap computer disc). It's not possible to burn a pro-disc (computer disc) by using your Pioneer, and that's why you got that message on the screen. Refer to the user manual of your cd recorder and learn what sort of blank cd you should use.
