Question about Astar LTV-3201 32 in. LCD Television

1 Answer

Display issues, is it going to die?

My 32" Astar LCD television has developed an attitude since being replaced with a 50" plasma. When I turn the tv on the screen is split into four squares with a cross hair evenly across the screen, looks like four seperate screens? Additionally, sometimes the screen is distorted with green or red that fades or get brighter. I have to turn the tv on and off usually four times consecutively before it will display the picture correctly. Unfortunately I purchased the set through a wholesaler, although they did contact Astar and got me a new tuner at no charge, the new tuner did not fix the problem. I have no idea where to go from here? Please help!

Most video problems originate in the power supply and not the video boards.
Lack of ventilation seems to be damaging the electrolytic capacitors in the PS's
If you know how to use an LCR meter and desolder the caps, you can determine which ones to replace. The PS feeds all the varius boards in the back of the set. This is the first place to start. If the main fuse is bad, you may have to replace the IC regulator chip too. Hosfelt Electronics or Mouser are good sources for components.
Make sure to replace with 105c rated caps. You may help the ventilation problem by adding several holes on the back plastic panel over the PS. If you have no electronic skills, it is best to hand it to one that has. Good Luck.

No Picture or Sound from ASTAR 32 inch LCD Television

Google Allelectronics or Hosfelt Electronics for these caps
I just ordered these at a good price but ordered 35Volt instead.
Also replacing 3300uF caps too as they are bulged at top.
Hope this fixes it. Will let you know.
